Hi everyone! I’ve been really struggling with running over the last few months. My mojo has gone and it’s nowhere in sight 🙄 I’ve piled weight on by drinking and eating too much with GTFC (who hasn’t piled it on at all), and have no motivation at all. I have kept going and still have never had a week off since starting running nearly 5 years ago now, but my mileage has been very low lately.
I’ve decided to do RED January again to try and get me back in the habit of running again even though I said I’d never do it again! I remember it being quite hard around day 17-18 and then it got a little better towards then end.
Is anyone else doing it?
Happy New Year to all. Keep running 🏃🏽♀️

First of all Tasha and Dean I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and I wish both of you a very happy running 2024, good luck to you for RED (Run Every Day) January again, use the C25K motto slogan "slow and steady" for those runs, perhaps this year in January you ran too fast, good luck 🤞 ✔️👍
Mojo? Habit? Whatever the reason RED January will at least keep you going out. I've been listening to Coach Bennett's podcasts, sshhh don't tell him how great they are to fall asleep to 😂 I rarely get to the end before I'm asleep and as sleep is hard to come by and quite restless they are a great addition to my nighttime routine.
There is one titled Running 2,000 days in a row, it's on Spotify but I'm sure also elsewhere. He states he started by thinking he'd run everyday for a month and where he's gone wrong in the past is he's always put a time or distance on it, like ,5k or ,20 minutes. Then on a busy day or tired day he skips a run which evolved into skipping more. So.....he decided he'd run for at least 5 minutes every day.....some five and a bit years later he's still going 😁. Don't know if something like that might help?
I've wanted to commit to Red January for the last few years, something always comes along to stop me....last year it was flu the year before COVID and this year I have an eye op on 10th so not a lot of point starting.....think my mojo may have eloped with yours .
Anyway good luck with it, remember....your pace your run and have fun even if it's only a few minutes xx
Thank you so much! I’ll have a go at finding it 😊 I don’t do very well with audio books and podcasts as I’m an appalling listener and just day dream but I’ll give it a go! All the best to you. I hope our mojos are happy together 🤣
Maybe they are 😁, I tried a podcast while running once but just blocked it out, I listen to the coach B ones over and over because I fall asleep, it was the 5 minutes bit that I found interesting, if you or me or anyone, runs for 5 minutes and aren't enjoying it then might as well turn round and run back, and that's 10 minutes, anyone can commit to that.
Our mojo often ups and leaves but returns hopefully before long 🙂. The weather, and dark nights, don’t really help low mood but they’re only temporary and we look forward to the new year with renewed enthusiasm
Oh yes we do! 😁 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏅🧢🫖😎🌞
My mojo has been missing since I got back from NZ. Probably something to do with the dismal weather. I’m thinking of doing RED February again as there are reasons I wouldn’t manage every day in January, but go for it and let us know how you’re getting on. Hope you both had a lovely Xmas and happy New Year xx
Hi Tasha, You sound just like me saying" never again!" , I'm aiming to give it a try and feel unfit and pudgy, and have a 10 mile race early February! Xxx
😂 I won’t be doing RED any month! It is not that my get up and go has got up and gone; truth is that 3 runs a week is all I can cope with. You can do it though, because you are young and strong. A fine balance between doing an encouraging series of consecutive runs and overdoing it. Just don’t put any pressure on yourself and let your legs do the thinking…..if you need to miss out some days, so what? Have fun!🙂
I am ok thanks. Trying to build up a bit of pace again after spending most of the last two years focused on distance. It would be nice to get near to 30 mins for a 5k again, but I am not going to injure myself trying.
That's what's I figured first time around...I already do a regular 10 minute to 20 minutes yoga routine, every day.. I'll just add other stuff on..some days will be longer sessions x
Hello! Good to see you and what a lovely photograph... I am doing Red January again... could not do it this year, as we were recovering from Covid!
My Challenge is what it was the year before... (which many had similarly)... to move for at least 10 minutes every day.( as did a few others that year), I included Yoga, my runs , workouts, walking and cycling on those activities.. it worked for me , as to commit just to running, may have proved tricky, a good decision considering how many icy days we had that year!
So.... maybe consider some other activities as well as running..it can prove to be motivation... and interesting...
Once you start moving again, that hidden mojo appears, as if by magic
Good to know someone who will be doing it.. nowster did it last year too
I did it in 2022 too. In 2023 I did a RED January, February and most of March. A trip and fall stopped me on the final day of March.
I'm going to give it a try again this year, even if it means getting out running in a gale at 11.45pm with a head torch on.
The minimum amount for a day to count will be 10 minutes of running (speed and distance irrelevant).
What I found when I did it for three months in 2023 was that little niggles didn't get enough chance to heal, and longer (over 8km) runs started to get uncomfortable because something pulled in my left leg in the middle of February and it never had a chance to sort itself out. It seems I need at least one non-running day per week.
I only intend to do RED January this year. Things have been a bit chaotic with Dad in hospital since the start of December. RED January might give me the impetus to "just get out there".
Incredibly ju-ju- has put in at least a mile every day for over 5 years now.
She has,! I think you may get a few gales on the Llyn when you're there.Sorry your Dad is still in hospital...hopefully your able to sort things still even though back at work?
Hi Tasha99 👋 I hear you. I did RED January 2 years ago (maybe 3, who knows?) and I really enjoyed it. However, my mojo has totally left me too. No real reason, I haven’t had a really fun run for months. Now I have the (it had better be) the tail end of a voiceless Christmas and cough and I’m reticent to get back too soon. That could also be a handy excuse of course! 😅
I know I wouldn’t be able to manage RED January this time round, but, like Sandie1961 , I might just give RED February a whirl.
So let’s kick ourselves up the rear and get going! Happy 2024 to you and GTFC ❤️
These days RED doesn't have to men RUN everyday, it's sort of been subtitled MED - MOVE everyday, although that doesn't have such a snappy sound! Lots of people commit to doing something every day, you could go for a walk, do a bit of strength or stretch, anything really as long as you're active. Most of us runners would benefit from a bit of strength work wouldn't we?
Any way, best of luck, of course this is your RED, do whatever you think best, and enjoy it.x
Happy New Year Tasha99 and GTFC I hope you had a good Christmas.I know what you mean about losing your mojo. Mine has been absent since late summer, but for different reasons.
Good luck with RED January, it's a good challenge to take on.
I won't be doing it as Mr B and I are going away for 3 weeks just after New Year - probably one last hurrah for us
Hiya Tasha, lovely to see you back! I’m sure your mojo is there, somewhere dusty in the back of your running shoe cupboard 😍
Yes, I’m doing it. For some bonkers reason I’m going to try to do 5k/day again but this time with the added challenge of running to heart rate for most of the runs (not parkrun, that would be a silly!). Got my special RED buff on this morning to inaugurate it at Bushy. Now that’s a way to give the mojo a big kick in the bottom!
Hope the mojo returns! This is perfect for me -I did Quest in December with Oldfloss to make my running more consistent. It almost worked!! I think RED January may be just what I need to really stop me from skipping runs on stressful work days . My plan is minimum 2km per run with some longer runs mixed in.
First run today ✔️(2km) 30 runs to go.
Thanks for the inspiration-and good luck with your RED January!!
Oh that’s brilliant! We sound quite alike! Skipping runs after work is exactly my problem. I’m much more of a morning runner, but I don’t think I could get up early enough to run before work. Good luck! We can do it💪🏽
Botheration! I've only gone and caught a streaming cold last night. Very poor sleep with lots of coughing. I'll see if I can do a bit of walking later instead.
