Inspired to join Tasha99 and crew for REDJanuary I have been getting out every day and have actually been enjoying my runs in the dark after work. I am loosely following the GarminHM plan with coach Greg to give my runs variety but running at least 2km on the "rest" days . Listening to my body and rescheduling the HM plan runs if I need too.
Last night, after work, I set off for my Stride repeats run. Conscious of the dark, I carefully selected my route and performed the actual repeats on a nice level, well lit stretch of pavement -perfect! Then, slow, steady and feeling very smug and even remembering to take a slightly different route than normal for better lighting off I trot on the cool down jog. With only one minute to go and feeling great I discovered that pride really does come before a fall! One of those slow motion stumble, stumble this is going to hurt slow motion falls! So, after a quick self assessment I rise slowly , retraced my steps a little to retrieve my all important running glove and potter of home.
I have a slightly grazed hand & face , bruised (but intact) knees and a rather sore (hurts only when I laugh) rib. Most importantly I still have both running gloves, my favourite winter running leggings and jacket are intact and it happened right atvthe end of the run so Mr Garmin took a year off my running age!!!
Happy running all...stay safe !

Thanks- keep getting the giggles myself when I realised how ridiculous I would have looked to anyone who witnessed me hunting around for a glove in the grass beside the path instead of heading straight home to clean the grazes-omly runners understand that perfect pair of running gloves-lightweight and windproof!! Happy running 🏃♀️
Yep, I've taken a couple of tumbles when running- I've just been out for a very gentle 2k and had no problems.. A few aches but no worse than when I was sitting at my desk atcwork do all is well.👍
The mental image of being supermanned out on the pavement saying "Oh no! My glove!" made me laugh. I did a full-on belly slide once and looked up to see a herd of cows watching on, chewing nonchalantly. I retrieved my flasks and shuffled past them genuinely embarrassed.
Hope you're not too beaten up though. That side of stacking it is less entertaining.
Ouch Week7. I know exactly what you mean by a slow motion fall! My knee and ribs took the brunt of my fall last June; the rib pain didn’t kick in for a few day , but it then lasted for a few weeks! Had to be the side I prefer to sleep on of course. Funny, I walked home in my running gear, blood running down my leg and nobody seemed to notice! I think you become invisible after a certain age 😂 Heal quickly and well.👍
Falls arre horrible, glad you aren't more badly injured. Are you enjoying that plan? I tried a Garmin one and found it frustrating, kept getting could do better messages at the end so quit
Hi how are you? I am only following the plan loosely to give me a variety of runs . I dont get feedback-maybe my Garmin is too basic!!! I just like my watch to tell me what to do so that I don't have to think! I have used the plans properly in the past and they got me well prepared for the the target events.
I'm good thanks, I've started my own Garmin plan, I work out what I want to do tomorrow then add it and send to the watch, it works so far. Maybe you are fast enough for Garmin to be happy with what you do 😀
You are clearly more techy than me!!! Maybe you should provide a Garmin loading service for lazy peeps like me!! I might have to try it next time I need a new pln as I quite like the idea of the NRC plan.
Ha, I was told how to do it, I think you could create a plan using each of the NRC runs then add to your calendar and send to your watch then each run day it'll tell you what you are doing, so far I've only added one day at a time because I've just started
Thankyou! This was my 3rd . Each time I graze the same part of the same hand-achy ribs are a new one-not enjoying them when I get the giggles!!I am currently averaging one significant running tumble per year so hopefully good to go til 2025 now!!!
Ouch and well done you! Glad you retrieved the glove ! Good luck with the rest of Red January... I am having fun... although the weather keeps trying to thwart me!
Pleased to hear you are having fun! I am quite enjoying the cold dark evening runs at the moment- the ones where I stay on my feet are best!Happy running!!
