How about a relay run on the 31st December?

Just read the latest Runner's World and there was an article about Asics World Ekiden, a virtual marathon run in relays by different runners all over the world. We could do something like that! If everbody says the distance they will run (from the shortest to the longest), we could try to reach a certain number of kilometres between all of us! Does anyone fancy the idea? I don't know how many runners are on this group but we are all capable of doing our bit and, in the meantime, saying goodbye to 2020, which has not been a great year... Maybe somebody could give us a good idea of a target?

Soory, not sure what you mean.

I am suggesting 20.20 miles or km could be a good target...

Good idea! It would be great to have a total that we had all participated in! :)

I was actually thinking about posting a speed challenge for December, but a distance challenge would be just as good! linda9389 Decker

This was our last distance challenge, which included walking and cycling - we clocked up over 7000 km:

Wow! That's a lot of kilometres!!,

Don't you think it would be possible in a day? There are a lot of 31st December runs, bike rides, walks etc.

See the last challenge had about 30 people participating? Even if we got 50 people, that would be 40 km each on average. Also somebody would have to be collecting the results on the 31st. I think it would be more fun (doable) to be able to present the results on the 31st...?

Another idea could be to have everyone do 20.20 km on the 31st, with the option for people to buddy up and make it a relay? We could then have a post published on the 31st (and a Strava club I suppose) so that everyone can add their own results to it?

... I could then do a results post on New Years Day

I was wondering if we could set up a strava club for this, but of course not everyone here uses strava

I'm running a marathon on the 27th, so I don't think I'll be doing much running on the 31st. I'll have to cheer you all on. It's a great idea, though.

Great!!!! I would do a 10.10 and share the 20.20 with somebody. :)

Following your post, we've had various discussions about forum challenges for the rest of the year.

roseabi is going to run a speed challenge over on Bridge for 4 weeks from 23rd Nov to 20th Dec.

We will then run a distance challenge here on Marathon:

- from 21st Dec to the end of the year (which gives a greater chance of more people being able to participate)

- joint goal to reach 2020 km (or maybe even 2020 miles) by the end of the year

- individual goal to run 20.20 kms, 20.20 miles or for 20.20 seconds for at least one of the runs

Within that framework, it's also possible for anyone who wants to to buddy up to run 20.20km or miles on 31st December, and end the challenge with a bang!

We will announce it properly with a more detailed post nearer the time, but we wanted you to know that we hadn't forgotten your post - and that we love the idea of seeing 2020 out with a forum challenge. Thanks for the suggestion 😊
