Virtual 10k (+3) report

So earlier this week the inevitable finally happened, and the Great East Run I was due to run in on 20th September was, unsurprisingly, cancelled. But I'm still holding to my plan to run the distance on 20th, even if it will be rather solitary.

Today was due to be a 13k/8mi run so I've counted my first 10k as my entry here.

I've made use of the Audiofuel music tracks quite a bit in the past to keep a good pace, but hadn't run with that for a while. Today, as this would be my longest run to date, I thought I'd give it another go.

I'd considered trying a completely new route but was unsure about some rights of way over paths. I didn't want to run 8k and then find myself having to turn round, so I opted for a slightly longer version of one of my "out and back" routes running down to the River Deben (see the photo).

It was nice to do the first 5k in under 30 mins (which I haven't done for a while), but I think I paid for that in the second part of the run!

The run took me along the seafront path for part of the route, which involved the usual social distance dance. But it's a really pleasant place to run on a day like this. I did pause for a minute to take the attached photo before turning round again.

The Audiofuel track picked up to 170+ BPM just as I came back up the (only) hill, which was a bit of a challenge. I hit 10k at 1:05:04. Nowhere near my best, but not too bad given that I had still got another 3k to go.

Given that this was the longest run I've done I was surprised when I got to 12k that suddenly things felt quite a bit easier. I don't know if that'll happen again, but I'll be very happy if it does when I set out to do 16k next week!

Well done on the run. Lovely photo. I used to see that river from Woodbridge.

It's quite likely that my 16k next week will be from a drop off in Woodbridge back to Felixstowe!

These cancellations are so disappointing, but that sounds like a cracking run! Good luck with the 16k 👍
