Insects like to nibble me...

Hi people...Just a quick question.

Has anyone any suggestions for a lightweight Summer running tee/shirt.. but with long sleeves?

I often get nibbled by flying things and prefer my arms covered, wehn on runs... some of you may remember my horsefly incident of a few years back although that was legs.... and through my leggings! It is getting warmer and I am getting pinker...:)

It is getting warmer and I am getting pinker...:)

I have had a look around but can only find warmer weight ones??

Thanks ...hopefully :)

Flossx

I have a synthetic work shirt that I always wear when the bugs are out. It has cuffs with buttons which I can roll up if I get too hot, and it buttons down the front. Sometimes I unbutton it and wear a thinner layer underneath. I sympathize with you about getting bitten through tights. I had tights on and was STUNG through tights by a little bee and I wound up at the doctor's office with a baseball-sized red spot on my calf. The nerve of that bee! and I was in the middle of my driveway, not by the edge -- which should have been HIS domain. I seem to recall reading that it is best to wear certain colors to deter insects from attaching themselves to one. Who knew that insects are not color blind?! If you google it, there are suggestions about different colors for both bugs and bees.

P.S. I love that little horsefly! Did you draw it?

No...Sadly..unfortunately their bite is, for me fairly unpleasant...thanks for the reply..I thought a loose shirt maybe I could knot at the front maybe x

I had loads of replies to my horse fly posts.. Irishprincess did a load of research..only the females bite..and they dislike bright colours..but like black...it was interesting!

I go out now, often looking like a gaudy deckchair!

Hello Floss, I have a lighter weight long sleeve top from karimoor, but it is black so would probably still be too warm in the summer. Given that there are Many runners who like to cover arms For religious or cultural reasons , you’d think there would be plenty to choose from but the big brands aren’t that good at thinking of diversity or the wave of new runners who are not size 10.

Contra, the parkrun brand is perhaps the answer. contra-movement.com/collect...

A bit more expensive but ethically produced and supports parkrun.

Hi Oldfloss . I have a solution for you. Run with me - I’m a veritable horsefly magnet! On hols in Bavaria a couple of summers ago, I encountered the German version of horseflies, called Bremsens. Oh my flipping goodness, the bites I got. Oozing swollen ones on my legs. 😩😩😩😩

As regards here, I’m ok if I run early enough as a rule, before the b*ggers come out, but I do have a super light weight long sleeved Asics top in bright pink.

Good luck, I feel your pain. 😘

OUCHHHHHH !

I really empathise it was so painful and when it turned nasty... Horrid

I was bitten in France years ago and had to do a sort of Charades version of horsefly because I did not speak much french... it was hilarious! The pharmacist and staff were in hysterics!

I am fluent now!!I

I shall take a look, thank you and you take care !!!

You can get insect repellent wet wipes which I have found quite useful. I’ve always said “if there is an insect in a 5 mile radius it will smell me and zoom in to bite me” and I have had several Encounters of the Horsefly kind over the years.

I do have use bracelets that help..never thought of wipes..thank you! I am having a great time cruising around the net looking at stuff... I have bought a lot, just not a top yet!

You might be able to get something in Craghopper’s Nosilife range. The fabric is impregnated with insect repellent so you wouldn’t need long sleeves. I get it for youngest kitten and I as they like to chew us too and my bites always swell up.

Oh...never thought of them! Another adventure in shopping...I already got a Craghoppers lightweight jacket in the sale !!

Thanks you !

Poor kitten...xx

Ouch Floss, I remember your horsefly incident 😫 nasty it was. I have to spray myself before I venture outside anywhere and like you, all kinds of flying nasties seem to make a beeline for me.

You’ve got loads of great replies here so hopefully you’ll be able to get something. I have a lightweight long sleeved top that I got yonks ago in a Nike sale. It only cost about £7 and is a lovely turquoise blue and has been a godsend as I wear it on its own and also as a base layer in colder weather. Not sure you’d get it now but might be worth a look on Mrs Google xxx

I have a Ronhill lightweight long sleeved tee also Brooks do good lightweight long sleeved tops.

Have you tried repelling them too? I forgot yesterday but I've been using my trusty Avon Skin so Soft (Original green) before heading out and it does clear most of the little gits away. I spritz it at the top of my long socks for my legs and either in my hair or on my visor to keep them off my face.

Some little thing bit me several times on the arm yesterday so I do know your pain!

Thanks for this ..I am spoiled for choice now..the Avon stuff sounds useful ! X

It is, cheap too, especially when on offer. You don't need much either and it isn't as awful smelling as actual bug repellent either. I have a gardener friend who swears by it too!

Thank you..apparently my daughter uses it..but I didn't know that until I mentioned it.!
