First Tempo-Learning Process πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“

Some reflective practice needed following my first tempo run.

* Deciding to run in the afternoon means it will be warmer than the early morning ... and I will be awake.

*Forgetting lunch and then filling up with cottage cheese, crisps and a chocolate biscuit just before running a tempo run is bad.

*Forgetting to take water bottle out on duty so I don’t have a drink all day-also bad.

*Going to a nice spot with no wi fi means no Spotify but the sound of birdsong instead.

*Cottage cheese and crisps are a very icky combination and probably the reason for -ouch- stitch!

β€’Being told by an inmyear coach to β€˜think breathing’ when all I can do is struggle to breathe is bad.

*Getting back to the car and realising it’s over-good.

*Glimpse of glistening forehead and red face in the mirror surprisingly satisfying.

*Feeling of accomplishment- bloomin brilliant!

Hello Comfortnotspeed , you are so good! All I can say is that my main learning from tempo runs is that I really don't enjoy them, I have to force myself to do them, and they make me go a really unattractive shade of puce 😳

Hmmm. Puce definitely featured in my reflection, too. Glad this one’s done. Don’t even want to think about running any longer at that pace!!!

How long was it Comfortnotspeed ? I started with 30 minutes, today was 60 minutes, and in a few weeks it'll be 80 minutes. Allegedly.

Well. It was 7 minutes warm up and a modest 25 minutes tempo. It felt like longer than 25 minutes. A lot longer. Not sure what next week brings. Training for a HM In September 😊

Mine are part of the training plan for my trail marathon at the start of October. I've never been brave enough to have a plan before, I've winged it, but there's no way I can get away with that this time!

I can't eat anything before a run, it all comes back up, so I really don't know how you did cottage cheese, crisps and a chocolate biscuit! You must have a cast iron stomach.

Running-wise, impressive stuff, even 25 mins sounds really hard

I think I’m so used to trotting out first thing in the morning on half a glass of water.

I’ve got to get used to running in the daytime and all that means.

Food, hydration and mindset is completely different- which I should be thinking about anyway, instead of falling into my running gear first thing before my body realises it’s awake!

I was always a "first thing" runner (after walking the dogs at some ungodly hour), and running on an empty stomach

With my new job being FT working from home I am exploring other hours - like lunch time, and just after work, but I really still can't run with anything in my stomach.

Absolutely agree with you about that. 🀒
