Hello VRBs, I didn’t make the final sadly but tbh I never really was in with much chance. I came 6th in my 200m semi final after a tight lane draw in lane 2 which my adductor did not appreciate.
The intensity of the past week was just too much for my body. Still I made it to the finish line and ended up 17th overall which is still very good I think.
I’m heading back home today hoping for some rest.
Thank you so much everyone here for your support and words of encouragement. You really have no idea how much they helped me these past 10 days.

You have had a hugely successful weekend Brian, and kept us all on the edge of our seats! A silver medal at international level is a terrific achievement and I hope that you are as happy about it as we are! Time for a proper celebration and then lots of running rehab; definitely in that order! Huge congratulations!🏆🍾🏎️
You have so much to be proud of Brian. A silver medal in the relay is a fantastic achievement. I have loved seeing reports of octogenarians doing so well at the games too. Rest up and enjoy showing it to everyone.
Thanks Dexy I was in the stands yesterday and I watched a 95 year old Mongolian man win the 200m race in 37 seconds. It made the hairs on my arms and neck stand up. Absolutely incredible.
Thanks Brian, this morning I ran my 185th (not) parkrun along the side of the canal about 3 miles from where I live in a time of 33:21 which I am reasonably pleased with, there was another runner running in the opposite direction I would reckon his 5K time would be around 23:21, he was going fast.
Hi IP Thank you. Well it’s funny you should say that as I’ve just woken up from a massive lie in! Body is a bit stiff and achy. I’ll have the rest of this week off and may do some gentle training later next week.
Pleased that you managed to run rather than returning home always wondering what would have happened. I do hope your leg heals quickly. What a wk though:
Silver in World Championship relay.
17th in the world 200m
9th in the world 100m
And the fastest man in the world born in 1961
Think you deserve a rest and some major celebrations!
It looks good because it is good! ... understatement of the year!! You are closing in on thar Individual medal.
I re-read your profile the otherday Your improvement has been incredible . Take yourself back to 2018 and extrapolate from there- that Individual medal is waiting for you....
That’s my dream. I can dream! I will be giving it my best shot provided I avoid injury and stay patient.
Progress at this level is really really hard to measure as it’s minuscule and takes time, patience, commitment and consistency. Actually it’s the same for all of us isn’t it? Small steps lead to big changes. Thank you for your support Week7. 👍
What a wonderful performance Brian! Outstanding. I love the smiles in that photo, says it all. Safe travels, look after that medal and rest well. You are a real star👏👏👏
Thank you so much Linda. I’m back in Blighty medal in hand and feeling knackered but good. No doubt about it this was one of the most fun, terrifying and exciting times of my life.
Rest for sure as I’m aching all over! Epsom salts bath!
So proud of you RunBrianRun ! I hope you’re due some well earned down time now. You can reflect on how amazing your achievements have been to date. Anything else in the pipeline? Your fans will be ready to cheer you on again!
Fab photo by the way. A legit GB shirt, and a medal that you’ll treasure. Well done! ⭐️
Thank you cheeky, 😊 There’s so much to look back on. One of the most abiding memories was watching the 85+ ladies 200 and the Men’s 90+ 200m. Truly incredible and inspiring.
I’m hoping to attend a Veterans Athletics Club championships in London on the 31st and the British Inter Area competition on the 7th September.
You did absolutely amazingly RBR! What a special time in your life this has been. You have so much to be proud of 🎉. Hope you can get lots of well deserved rest and then some physio on your adductor.
It’s been one of those life moments for sure. I can hardly believe it’s happened and that it’s all over. I’m seeing my physio/chiropractor later this week hopefully. I slept in till 10 this morning and had another nap earlier this afternoon. Lots of rest needed.
Nothing but respect for you Brian , to get to the start line would have involved so much hard work , runs on dark freezing days and dealing with set backs . So congratulations , be proud , and treasure that wonderful shirt and medal - you earnt them !
Thank you Raisemeup . You’re so right. Those dark dingy freezing raining miserable days are the hardest but also the best once the session is over! I will never skip a session unless family or injury make it essential.
Apologies for my delay in replying. 17th in the world is brilliant! Head shaking in astonishment. I do hope that you are beginning to rest and enjoy lots of very special memories, although there were sad times too. The relay team look wonderful with their silver medals. I and to look up adductor; seems like quite a group of muscles. Many congratulations 👏🎉🏃🏻♂️🎉👏
That’s so nice of you to say over61andstilltrying . 😊 My adductor, aka groin strain, doesn’t like running round corners, so I’ve decided to stick to running in straight lines 😂. I slept so much these past two days. I had no idea how tired I was. 😴 🥱
I'm a bit late with my congratulations Brian, I read your progress with bated breath and am so proud to be part of your support group here, you have done so well and the medal will remind you of your awesomeness. 👏👏👏
I'm back in hospital sadly hence slow commenting, I've been reading and falling asleep, but new treatment started so hopeful for at least a partial return to health in the fairly near future.
