Well my plan today said 16 easy miles, and I felt reasonably good setting off, although thirsty before I started. First mile in and a dog appeared from nowhere and followed me down the road. I was afraid she was going to get hit by a car so ended up carrying her over 2 fields to the nearest local farm which luckily turned out to be where she lived! Then carried on with my run which just got warmer and warmer and my pace got slower and slower. Tried out my new Aonijie (think that is how it is spelt) hydration pack and it is so comfortable to run in. By mile 8 I was really starting to flag and began to feel slightly sick and dizzy, despite the fluids and an energy bar. There was just no shade. At some point my water pack leaked (didn’t seal it properly) so ended up a sticky mess and with no water and not feeling great I called it a day at mile 10. Valuable lessons learned today re the importance of running hydrated. Trying not to be too disappointed that I didn’t make it to 16, but figured listening to my body and taking the conditions into consideration was more important. I hate to say it, but I much prefer running in winter! Here’s to a new week, and better runs 🏃♂️.

Week 5 done
U still RAN 10 miles and rescued a dog and in heat. So well done u 😊 👏
What an adventure, and I think 10 miles a splendid distance! (Well I would😂)
How lovely that you made sure the dog was safe. As for hydration packs, a sticky mess seems to happen way or another 🤨
Thanks FlickM3, I am definitely going to have to practice the hydration thing a bit more 🤦🏻♀️. It’s funny how we become all fingers and thumbs out running and I couldn’t screw a lid on properly!
As I said before somewhere, I couldn’t get anything out of mine first time I used it, till I realised it had a valve on the tube to stop it leaking!
Well despite it not being a perfect run for you, it was still a mighty impressive one Aldlib! Kudos for caring about the dog. ❤️
It sounds like you did the right thing stopping earlier than you’d hoped. There will always be another run.
I’m with you about running in the heat. I can’t wait for cool weather running again. I just wilt. I’m glad you like your hydration vest - I have the same one and I also find it very comfy. 👍
I have always used hydration belts before but they weren’t carrying enough water in this heat for longer runs. I was really surprised how comfy the vest was and had even brought Tiny tub of Vaseline just incase if chaffing, but there was none. I think I might try the back bladder on my next long run if I can work out how to use it 🤦🏻♀️ And I have such a sensitive tummy, I will stick to water. ‘Wilting’ is a perfect des description lol.
The bladder is fantastic too! I haven’t filled it beyond half full yet, but I wasn’t really aware I was carrying the extra weight as it’s so well distributed. 😀
Have a good play with the drinking nozzle though - you need to twist it open (didn’t realise that at first! 🙄) then bite down. Also, to avoid annoying sloshing, hold the bladder upside down and suck all the air out before running. It works! 👍
Have fun! 😀😀
You made the right choice - and still did a very decent run. I agree with you about the heat - I much prefer running in autumn and winter, too! Oh, and of course you deserve a medal for rescuing the dog 🐕🏅 - so all in all, not such a bad run!🙂
I think 16 on a HMP was always going to be a bit ambitious for me. I prefer long slow runs, but not quite that long. Kudos to anyone who has done marathon and ultra distance, it’s so long! I think if I ever contemplated one it would have to be a winter training program.
