Hi folks, this is the first time I have posted on this forum because I mostly stick to runs up to 10k. I hope it is ok to pop over and say hello π
Recently I have been increasing the distance of my runs and running three times a week (mostly been working from home, so more time). For a while now I have been planning a run which links together several runs I have done before and was about 10 miles. So I set this as a personal goal. Well today I did it!!
I woke early and set off at about 6.30. Perfect weather - cool (at the beginning), clear, blue skies, a lovely gentle breeze and sunshine. I didnβt have a plan but felt good right from the beginning and just kept going! An interesting, varied run along pavement, lanes, grass, cycle track, trails, shingle, wet sand and pebbles!! A couple of gradual hills - puff, puff but plenty of downhill and flattish parts too. Along the route I admired beautiful trees, wild flowers, pretty cottages and wonderful bird song, just delightful. I was really enjoying the run so decided to keep going along lanes and footpaths to the beach.
I stopped briefly to take this photo and phoned hubby to explain that I just couldnβt stop running!! He agreed to pick me up in the car later π
Some parts of the run were very slow due to the terrain but overall a reasonable pace (for me!). I loved running on the wet sand and Squiggy the spaniel did too because he was able to explore off the lead πΆπΎπΎ
A wonderful run, certainly one to remember π
Maybe, just maybe I might reach that magic HM distance after all!
Happy and safe running to you all

Great run for you today skysue16, 10 miles, excellent, regarding HM distance, that is only 5K more, I am sure you will be able to run that soon, if you wish to to see the words 10 miles next to your username tell the administrators that you have ran 10 miles. π ππΎ
That is a lovely photo with your dog sitting on the sand.
Absolutely awesome..terrific well done you..that first 10 mile is so special. It sounds to have been an looks to have been a glorious run...just wonderful xxx
I remember doing 10 for the first time and being so thrilled... unlike your beautiful day it was absolutely pouring down and took me an age to do it! It did not dampen my spirits though.
It most certainly is OK to pop in to say hello! You're welcome any time π
That sounds like the most amazing run - what a lovely way to clock up your first ten miles. Well done!
You're right, HM really isn't that much further and is well within reach for you now. There is a pinned post with all the posts from our spring HM group this year - lots of info and discussions in there which you might find useful healthunlocked.com/marathon...
In the meantime though, you now have a shiny new 10 mile badge beside your name which you can wear with pride whenever you pop in to this forum π. Congratulations πππ
Thank you Linda for your welcome π and thanks for the links, which I will take a look at. I have a big birthday next year, wouldnβt it be amazing if I could achieve HM - nice birthday present!
Yes, I might consider a virtual race because I like to run with Squiggy, maybe a Canicross event - I will ask Maddee. But running with others does give me a boost.
That sounds a beautiful run π especially the bit on the beach. For some reason Iβm really missing the smell of the sea at the minute so thank you for the lovely photo.
Very well done to you Sue (and Squiggy of course) for a fab 10 miles πββοΈππ
Thank you so much Princess. Yes, it was delightful running on the beach, the wet sand was quite firm so lovely to run on, but the pebbles were VERY tricky π
That is the way to do it; a fantastic run, lovely weather and wonderful setting. When I got to 10 miles last year, somebody, who shall be nameless said β only a Park Run more and you will have done a HM!β I said no at the time but it only took a few weeks to build up the additional distance ....but only when and if you want to do it.π
Your run sounds great and on lots of different ground. Congratulations on your 10 miles and congratulations to Squiggy as well. π₯³π₯³π₯³πββοΈπββοΈππ
That's great Sue sounds perfect π yep HM on the horizon definitely xxx
Lovely badge- very well done. Sounds like an absolute stonker
I too have had more time in lockdown and built up to do my second 10 miles the other day (over 12 months since the first). It's a bloody long way isn't it?!
I am peeking at 13.1, but not committing myself just yet, what about you?
Absolutely amazing SS! The perfect run in perfect conditions. And yes of course you can reach HM. Itβs βonlyβ a PR further! Bet youβll do it! π
For now though, bask in that epic 10 mile glory. How lovely Squiggy was there to share your joy! πΎπΎπΎ
Squiggy loved it, a great running pal ππΎπΆ. He even got two off lead beach runs BUT found a dead small stingray to eat - yuk! I am basking in the glory, canβt quite believe it!
Congratulations on running 10 miles and it sounds so enjoyable too. ππI love the photo. I did my first 10 miles just before lockdown. Now that we can exercise more freely I might try for the half marathon.
