16k/10 miles in the bag. Longest run ever.

I set myself a goal to run 16k this year and today I achieved that goal. Not in an official run but I may do one later this year. The longest I had run to date was 13k in the lead up to this.

I had psyched myself up and just said slow and steady and just enjoy it.

I really did enjoy it as I had a really varied route but one of my favourite parts of the route by the river had become very wet and there were plenty of muddy puddles to dodge and overgrowth to brush past which soaked me through along with the ever present rain.

By 13k I was starting to feel weary and looking forwards to the end but pushed on. I finished soaking wet and muddy but feeling elated that I had run my furthest distance.

Finished in 1 hour 50mins but considering the slow muddy parts I was more than happy with that.

Maybe I will give trail running a go ?

Having done this I do feel like a HM may be in my ability so we will see.

Feeling good for an over 60s previous running hater.

Keep at it folks anything is possible.

We’ll, I think that deserves a nice new shiny 10 mile badge!

Really well done 👍👏 that’s a great time for your first 10 miles. And you’re within a whisker of yet another badge!

Great stuff 🤗🥳

Congratulations to you RosesAreRed777 on completing your first 10 miles run (16K) in a very good time of 1 hour 50 minutes, you deserve to be very proud of yourself, that reminds me of my first 16 K which I ran in just over two hours, you could try a half marathon, it's only 5Ks more, but that's up to you.

Nothing wrong with that time for your 10 miles! You are building up pace in your shorter runs (I note the sub 30 5k) . I have found that pace on longer runs builds up more gradually; but that could be just me! Certainly the longer ones are strength builders. Running trails? nearly all of my runs are trail runs. Trails are a bit tougher on your ankles and calves (balance and your feet landing at a different angle on every step.) Just a question of managing the transition carefully. For today; well done, a brilliant run 👏👏👏👏

Fab run - well done on your first 10 miler! 👏👏 I don’t know where you are but if you’re looking for a good 10 mile event, the Great South Run in Portsmouth is worth looking at (in October).🙂
