After all the help and suggestions from VRB's here( for which many thanks), I have finally come up with a plan to address my knee injury which seems to be working (๐ค). Plan 1 was a disaster; do knee strengthening exercises to toughen up the muscle. Result; lots of pain and swelling. Plan 2 involved going for shortened walks each day. Result; more pain and swelling. It went from ok in a morning to swollen and painful at night. I did ice it, but any exercise just brought the swelling back.
So on Sunday I sat with my leg up all day, icing the spot regularly. It seemed to settle down a bit, but swelled up again after a short walk on Monday. Then I had a bit of inspiration! I remembered that about 7 years ago Molly had put me in A&E and on crutches by running full tilt into the same knee. At the time I bought a one size fits all knee support from Boots....it didn't help 7 years ago but I decided that everybody deserves a second chance, and 7 years is a long time to hold a grudge, even for me. So on it went yesterday morning. Hey presto 2 swelling and pain free days! I read that swelling is the bodyโs way of protecting an injury. So clearly I have done a bit of damage, and what the joint needed was some help with stability. Today I went on an extended Molly walk and all seems well tonight. The big question is, when do I try to walk without support. Answer, not yet. This is the Ninth day since my last run....no flying 1ks for me for a while, and I reckon that, given I don't really know what I am doing, it is best to play safe now. So whether this will fix it or just leave me in the best condition I can achieve until I can see a physio I don't know. In the meantime, there are loads of outstanding runs to applaud!! ๐

Donโt worry about being on the IC Beachcomber66- thereโs a very select group there at the moment. Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation, just what the doctor ordered.
Take it easy and hopefully youโll get some expert help soon. I bet molly is enjoying your company.
She loves the woods. Just stopped her rolling on a dead deer this afternoon! Pity it took me a week to settle on a well established formula. At the beginning I thought that it was nothing and would be a quick fix. I know now. Hope you are progressing well Dexy...you will be putting on your running shoes before me at this rate...you have had your share of IC now. ๐
Yes itโs been 6 I/2 weeks now. My next appointment is in 2 weeks time and then Iโm hoping to start on the run/walk programme that the physio has in mind. He says that by 12 weeks my ligament will be fully healed. My exercises have certainly got tougher so everything is getting stronger. ๐ค
Glad to hear that you have found a solution to your pain. Fingers crossed that you continue to improve ๐ค๐ป Take it steady, keep walking and patience is a virtue!
Thanks Sandie. Once I have a plan in which I have confidence, patience kicks in. A diagnosis would be good too, but that will have to wait. Solves the dog walk/ run dilemma ๐
Well done for finding a way to solve the immediate problem. In this day and age, thatโs a huge step forward. Donโt we miss our physios? Hope it gradually becomes obvious how to move from here towards full fitness. ๐๐ค One stage at a time!
Another grammar junkie. Iโm the same - I read my posts and replies before and after posting, and often have to go back to tweak something. Even an extra space needs to go, and donโt talk to me about apostrophes. ๐ I need to get a life! ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
The trouble with autocorrect is that it now thinks Cheekychipmunks and Oldgirlruns are acceptable words ๐คฃ๐คฃ but it does save typing them in full each time.
I am always editing! Mrs BC is worse. I often write stuff which is conceptual/ problem solving and I ask her to read it before I have done a proof read; looking for feedback on the ideas really. She always proof reads first and even interrupts when I am typing to point out a typo! Ideas first, proof reading last for me.
My eldest daughter and I are terrible in restaurants too. Itโs almost guaranteed that weโll find a typo on the menu. If weโre not together, weโll photograph it and text it to each other. Saddos! ๐ ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
At least you tried everything else BC! I sometimes wear a support bandage on my ankle as it gives me trouble from time to time and Iโve read that wearing one for extended periods of time is ok. So, Iโd say keep that bandage on for the time being, but then I know nothing ๐
Rest is probably the single best thing you can do. When I rest an injury I imagine what might be going on inside my body and all those healing cells fighting the injured ones. But then Iโm a bit weird like that ๐คฃ
Keep safe, keep sane and all will be well. This too will pass and youโll be running amok again in no time ๐๐
Thanks IP. My brain likes to understand what is going on and make a plan to fix it. I have a plan but no understanding of what the underlying problem is...so I short circuit to probably being a bit over anxious...reaching for my "get a grip" pills!๐
Youโve sussed it BC, well done on your persistence. ๐๐๐ Molly will enjoy her extra walks, your knee support will feel loved after 7 years of neglect, and all the while youโll be getting closer to running again. Perfect. ๐๐
Going to try just putting on the support for Mollyโs walk today to see how the knee holds up. Ok so far. If it starts to swell I will just put the support on again. Her longer walk is up and down hill and quite lengthy, so we are both getting exercise of a sort.
