A glimpse of the great outdoors

I just thought that I would post a view of the foothills of the North Yorkshire Moors. It was taken last week, from the half way treat stop on Molly's walk, which is about half an hour's walk (too steep to run!) from our front door.

Today there were quite a lot of people about in the forest. Young families, older folk, bikes, runners ....but loads of space so that the 2 metre gap was never in danger of being breached. I have never had so many good mornings, how are doing etc. Supermarket scrambles apart, people seem to be taking the time to be pleasant and supportive of each other. There is something reassuring about that.

Running? Today's quest was to complete a Vitality run and drag myself over the 10k mark for the first time since various bugs ruined Christmas and the New Year. I did say I was aiming for somewhere between 10k and 10 miles before I set off, but settled for a sensible 12k at a steady 7:08/k. No point in being IC at this point! I felt a couple of niggles in my left leg at one point, but they went and didn't return....maybe it was the muscles stretching out after all of this hill climbing with Molly. Anyway, hopefully that will help our score along a little bit!

I get that this is all escapism, and may seem trivial, but maybe we all need a little bit of that at the moment. We need a sense of humour too. What evil influence decided to cause my 93 year old mother's toilet to spring a leak yesterday....some things can't wait.

Thanks for all of those who are still turning up,for work to keep the rest of us safe.

Well done you. I'm pleased to say I managed 7k yesterday...gradually getting fitter. Yes it's lovely how people are so much friendlier whilst keeping our distance. The great British spirit is alive and kicking 👏

Beautiful view BC 😊 I’ve noticed that it isn’t just dog walkers saying hello like it normally is. Loads of people out for a walk in the sunshine, stopping to chat (at a distance), enquiring after older relatives. Let’s hope this awful situation will lead to us all being kinder to each other. Happy Sunday x

I hope so Sandie. I am party to lots of dog walker chats. Molly is, in old fashioned language, a babe magnet! Mrs BC swears that I have trained her....she heads straight for younger female people, because that is where she will get all of the fuss! Wings clipped for a while ☹️

Lovely photo. Well done on the run. And well done to Molly too.

Thanks Stephen; in all the circumstances, a pretty good day for both of us.

That's the only way I'll be seeing Yorkshire for a while, BC. It's nice to see it. No such thing as trivial right now, just light relief, and we are all the better for it. Don't know what malign entity is haunting your mum's bathroom, but I'll let you deal with that! 😁👻

Already fixed/ exorcised!

Beautiful. Escapism is where it's at. Whenever we can. I find it interesting that Northerners are managing to keep their distance whilst a good proportion of Southerners seem to have no concept of what two metres looks like!

That's a nice 12k for the VRWC team bank too. Great job 👍

I think that most of the people I encountered were “locals”. So our behaviour affects people we know which may make it more personal.

Right. I'm probably meeting tube commuters who have little to lose (and don't care about anyone else!) 🙊🙈

Well that’s quite some view BC. 😍 I love how people are posting gorgeous photos at the moment. We need them to cheer us all up. I still can’t quite believe what we’re going through and cannot wait for news that we’ve turned a corner.

In the meantime, let’s keep running and walking our precious dogs. ❤️

Stay safe - and your sweet mum of course (seriously - the toilet picked now to leak!?)

Thanks CC. Molly is enjoying having both of us around for extended periods. I am dreading getting one of the nhs letters because of my asthma....don’t think I could manage a HM running around our garden....We all need to take care and stay sane; quite a challenge!!

It’s certainly going to be a challenge if we end up being locked down. My garden is an option, but nooooo.

For now, let’s keep things crossed that didn’t even know they could cross, and hope people see sense and exercise proper social distancing and beat this darned thing. 👊

Agreed. Have just had a long beach walk with Molly....very few people about and all keeping their distance. I suspect that scenario is repeated in many areas across the country. Media tends to focus on the bits which aren’t working unfortunately. That risks a one size fits all solution.

Lovely bit of countryside. Daughter in law is a Yorkshire lass, so we know it is the Centre of the World. 😄 we are off shortly to look for a bit of New Forest with no people in it. No chance over the weekend as there was an invasion from the nearby urban areas. At least the sun has now shone for 3 days. 🌞 Happy Running.

Thanks Granspeed. Centre of the Universe more like 🙂. Hope you find a safe happy space to chill and enjoy the wonderful environment. I would like to fly fish the chalk streams of Hampshire one day, but I will not add to your overcrowding problems by hurtling down there!!

Ta very much! 🤣 But someday, for sure. 👍🎉 Somewhere along the Test Valley would make for a great meet-up. We can dream.... 😊
