HM training week14 day2 tempo run - tapering

And I am soaked!

Back on plan, as you can see from the rather squashed collage.

Woke up with that inner ear thing, room spinning like sinking half a bottle of spirits, but without the fun of getting there. But ok to run, just a bit tired - maybe that’s why!

Anyway, it’s nice to be back out there, in the wind, rain, sun and general British weather. Happy days!

Hi

what do you do for your inner ear thing? I have some exercises that get rid of it mostly if you need them. I had it so bad once I was throwing up from sea-sickness in my own home lol

in reply tobackintime

I don't do anything - just clutch the sides of the bed and wait to fall into the whirling pit! i had no idea there was anything to help. My GP said it can't be treated. Mine came from flying and has reared its head again whenever I've flown (which isn't very often) and crops up from time to time for no reason at all. If you've got something to help then I'm down on my knees begging you to share!!!! I haven't ever been actually physically sick (but then i don't get seasick either), but it's really scary and you feel as if you are going to pass out and die. sometimes the room is literally spinning round me. Agghh!

I was given this one to do if I was alone

And another to do if someone could help me - I'll try and find a pdf that shows it

You can google BBPV and Epley manoeuvre

I get it randomly - mostly after being on something that vibrates (staying in a mobile home on holiday that sort of vibrated with walking etc. set it off), or during my pregnancies (that was fun, not!)

But those exercises really help, otherwise I can't even walk straight, it's like I'm walking on a boat

My doctor sent me to an ENT - who moved me around a lot.

in reply tobackintime

Mine isn't as bad as yours, thank goodness. Thank you for the exercises. x

in reply tobackintime

Those look easy! Is yours worse on one side than the other? Do the different side exercises mean you do both sides, or you do the ones for the side that's worse?

I do both sides as I get hit from both sides, but you only really need to the the affected ear, if both are affected I would do both even if one is worse than the other

in reply tobackintime

Thank you so much for this !

You're very welcome :D

If you google BBPV and Epley manoeuvres you will see different types of exercises, those ones work for me, but you might find something else helps too - youtube has videos too

I think Alex Comfort did a book about the two person ones.

With a beardy unattractive bloke and a submissive looking woman, and no mention of same sex partners. But that’s a long time ago and a far cry from exercises to stop inner ear giddiness 😂

And yet a beard is now de rigueur for the modern dandy.

in reply toSlowLoris

But not a thin straggly beard like his 😂 🧔

Good run for you today Flick, sorry about the ear, I have slight tinnitus in my ear, for example, the quieter a sound is the louder the tinnitus, a bit like the tunning signal of a radio station, especially 'loud' first thing in the morning, anyway, I have got used to it and it's not really a problem, my hearing is excellent on both ears.

Not long now until your half marathon, isn't it this coming weekend?

in reply toAlMorr

Ears are funny things! My hearing is pretty good too.

My HM is the 13th, so about 12 days!

I had viral labrynthitis early this year and the doc gave me tablets which helped. They tried rocking me back and up again which didn’t help

in reply tolimberlou

Horrible - no tablets for me. It’s probably caused by air in my Eustachian tubes

Lovely to see you back on plan again, Flick! The rest will have done you good I think, you have been training so well, and so consistently. Sorry about the inner ear thing though – yikes! xxx

in reply toSadie-runs

Thank you dearest Sadie. Yes the ear thing is a bummer - and quite common, it seems. I never know when it’s going to strike. Hopefully I’m having it now rather than on the day 😂😂😂 xxx
