This was done after a bad night. I woke up at 3am needing the loo (so much for hydrating well the day before a run!). Went back to bed and my mind decided to run a Technicolor full screen production of all the animal suffering I’d either seen first hand or heard about. Yikes! Body pumped with Adrenalin and on red alert. Finally got back to sleep about two hours later, only to be woken by Dennis barking (yes, he of the dog allergens). That combined with the heat was NOT a good combination for keeping the heart rate down.
The run was 55 minutes, all in zones 1&2. I suppose I should be grateful it wasn’t scary intervals day! All the slow thud thud plod is niggling my bad knee, which made itself felt early in the run.
However, it was beautiful running along the Thames. There are hanging baskets of flowers all along the railings where long boats and cabin cruisers are parked leading up to St Helen’s Warf, where in ancient time’s supplies were brought to the Abbey. There was a lovely cool breeze off the water too. I carried on up East St Helen’s Street and peered into the garden of St Ethelwold’s House. The garden is beautiful, backs onto the river and is open for anyone to sit and eat or read. It’s a riot of colour right now. The house itself is extremely old and is named after Ethelwold who became bishop of Winchester in Saxon times.
Anyway, the run is done despite problems, and I note that my fastest pace was well under 5min/km (pity I had to throttle back and plod to keep my hr down) and, good grief! my VO2 MAX appears to be 42 ... how did that happen?!
I do feel I should say: is it worth running at that pace if it's hurting your knee? But I don't want to take anything away from you - you are getting so fit, well done!!!!
Extra well done for getting out there after such a ghastly night 💗💗💗
The knee has been a problem since I was 19. I’ve learned to live with it. It’s a juggling act. I run despite it, and I’ve learned to keep the balance between niggling and injury. Cleaning the house before we moved in February tipped it over into injury. If I listened to it too much I wouldn’t run at all ☹️ It was split to the bone and is mostly scar tissue. I haven’t had a day in the last 53 years when it didn’t hurt at some stage. I think I’ll be ok. It’s swimming tomorrow and that usually pacified it 😊 The yoga is helping too xxx
Thank you lovely. Every route round Abingdon is a joy. As for my leg, I’m a poor old crock. Fractured femur gives you problems forever more, including with the knee. Splitting that knee open at the same time was a bonus! Xxx
Well done, Flick! And look at how this training is improving your fitness levels! That is brilliant. Bravo! And, after such a bad night's sleep, you are owed a siesta. Hot today – and all sensible nations take a siesta on a hot day, right? (This is what I am telling myself). Your run route sounds gorgeous.
Keep up the very good work! And hope that the knee calms itself soon.
Thank you lovely 😊❤️ I’m promising myself a quick doze once the frozen cat food arrives. Though since Mr I Don’t Snore retired, I have to grab my moments when I can. I thought he was looking after his mum all day today, but he’s back already. He’s like a hyperactive Mexican jumping bean to have around all the time - the combination of him and Dennis dog is exhausting! But he’s MY Mexican jumping bean and I love him 😍
Maybe if Mr IDS has so much excess energy, he should go out for a run (and take Dennis dog with him), leaving you with the peace and quiet to snooze...! xxx
He said last year he would run with me when he retired. Still waiting. 🤨He currently has a bad back. Dennis is 10 and can’t run for very long. Isha runs like the wind, but won’t run with me, she just wants to sniff at things and wee. I envy Louise her runs with Dobby xxx
