Feel a marathon is not for me 😳

Think I need to withdraw from this, I think a marathon is just a few steps too far for me....so going to stick to ParkRuns and 10k challenges - I know my limits 😎....and I'm remaining injury free, which continues to be an important aim πŸŒπŸŒπŸŒπŸ™ƒπŸŒ»

I shall do - already feeling stronger having made the decision. Will run for the sheets joy of it - and the occasional bling too 😊🌻 - very occasional!

Smart move Gran4z. You know your own body and you’re doing what’s right for you. Well done. πŸ‘πŸ‘

I too had high hopes a FM might be in my future, however it is several steps too far :) Currently working on my HM on the 14th and hoping to do well enough to leave it alone in future :) Time for training just isn't there really, and 13.1 miles is a long long way for me. Ten miles is a good challenge and I think for me is keeping me with the Injury boundary a bit more than pushing my creaky old carcass to 13 and beyond :)

The nice thing however is, should time and physiology allow at some time in the future, I can always try again to improve my running to HM distances :) They certainly won't be "fast" HMs - but talk about the health benefits and funnof a 3.1 "run walk" added on to a ten Mile run! :)

Wishing you many happy 10ks and miles in your future G. :)

Yes, the health benefits are amazing, whilst everyone around me goes down with colds...I remain virus free! Injuries yes, viruses etc., no...and that’s OK. I found great complementary therapists around my part of the world and they keep me just fine.

Wishing you well for your HM on 14th, enjoy it, and stay injury free. Happy running πŸ™‚πŸŒ»

You and me too Gran4z. I think we know how our body feels as the distances extend and what priorities we have on our time are. I am training for a 10 mile race in October only because it’s something on my doorstep that I never thought I’d ever be able to take part in. After that, I am back with you, running 10k and parkruns.

Enjoying your running πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

Good for you. The most important thing is to enjoy running, after all. Listening to your body and enjoying the distances you are happiest with is so important! I have sort of enjoyed training for for HM, but now have a small injury that might mean I cannot do it - the misery this has caused me! I cannot wait for it all to be over so I can get back to running for pure pleasure and doing the distances that keep me fit and happy. Happy running Gran4z! 😊 xxx

Yes running for the joy of it is important, and I’d lost sight of that. Now I just want to enjoy it and most importantly remain injury free - though I know I will be looking to get faster, can’t help competing with myself πŸ˜‚

There's plenty of time down the road if you should fancy it πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜‰

Whatever makes you happy is the most important, distance is really irrelevant 😁

Totally agree with you - I kind of lost track of that. πŸ™‚

Good for you for making the decision. Far better to enjoy the shorter distances and remain fit and injury free. I have only gone to 10 miles to do the GSR with Dexy5 and cheekychipmunks and will then be going back to Parkrun and 10k as well. Happy running 😊

Congratulations on listening to yourself! You'll have a much longer running "career" that way.

I’m not sure I would enjoy a full marathon and I’m not sure my dodgy knee would hold out, so I understand. However, who knows .... xx

I think it takes as much courage to decide not to do something as to do it so well done.

Wasn't it a Harry Enfield sketch, "know your limits". I think that was addressed at women but it applies to us all!

Marathon is not just about the event, it’s all the lead-in and all it entails. The training is long and must be tricky if you’re working and have families. Training is winter can be a proper drag when it’s dark and the weather foul. I can well understand folks for not fancying it πŸ™‚.

Don’t mind the dark or the cold, just feel I don’t have it in me. I know women much older than me run marathons and it’s not an age thing per se...but my energy levels aren’t all they could be. Just want to keep enjoying running and remain injury free. But I will chase 5K and 10k PBs! πŸ˜‚πŸŒ»

Your fitness levels improve over time as you keep running. You just run a bit further, chipping away carefully at the distances. If you want to. There’s no need to though It’s whatever suits as it’s your running and it should be fun πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ
