I never thought I'd say that but good training is a wonderful thing. ππ
Despite a punishing work schedule of four night shifts this week, I designated my only day off to a 12 mile run. Far from perfect prep, I had to catch up on sleep so didn't get out till midday, with not enough time to fuel much beforehand and the risk of not having enough fuel comfortable do the distance. I tried to slightly carb load with pie and mash last night to compensate and had my favourite pre run mocha smoothie half an hour before.
I've slightly adjusted my long route to keep it fresh but this means starting uphill and today both the legs and lungs bitterly complained but I persevered, ran downhill past the hospital and down to the river. Everything started feeling more manageable, the temperature was good and I went further along the river than I have before, with birdsong, a nesting swan and the first dragonfly I've seen this year. I took two gels, first after thirty minutes was good, but I waited a bit too long for the second and had a take a short walk break for that one and to give the legs a talking to.
Back up the hill, warm down walk, stretching and very late lunch. Total time 2hours 1 minute which I'm happy with. I felt much more positive than my last long run and absolutely feeling ready for my first half marathon in just over two weeks!
Next week tapering which feels like well deserved rest. ππββοΈπββοΈ
