Feel ready for the half marathon

I never thought I'd say that but good training is a wonderful thing. πŸ‘πŸ˜

Despite a punishing work schedule of four night shifts this week, I designated my only day off to a 12 mile run. Far from perfect prep, I had to catch up on sleep so didn't get out till midday, with not enough time to fuel much beforehand and the risk of not having enough fuel comfortable do the distance. I tried to slightly carb load with pie and mash last night to compensate and had my favourite pre run mocha smoothie half an hour before.

I've slightly adjusted my long route to keep it fresh but this means starting uphill and today both the legs and lungs bitterly complained but I persevered, ran downhill past the hospital and down to the river. Everything started feeling more manageable, the temperature was good and I went further along the river than I have before, with birdsong, a nesting swan and the first dragonfly I've seen this year. I took two gels, first after thirty minutes was good, but I waited a bit too long for the second and had a take a short walk break for that one and to give the legs a talking to.

Back up the hill, warm down walk, stretching and very late lunch. Total time 2hours 1 minute which I'm happy with. I felt much more positive than my last long run and absolutely feeling ready for my first half marathon in just over two weeks!

Next week tapering which feels like well deserved rest. πŸ˜πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I’m seriously impressed CH! You’re a natural runner and take everything in your stride. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ŠπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ I can’t wait to hear how you get on as I’ll be starting to creep my distance up soon too. Isn’t this all so exciting? πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

It's very exciting but it takes up a lot of my time, I feel at the moment much of a day can go on preparing for a run, running and recovering.

Good luck with increasing your distance, are you thinking HM, you could definitely do it. 😊

Sounds like you are more than ready for your half marathon. Tapering can be a mental test and don't be surprised if your legs feel heavy and sluggish, all normal!

Awww thanks Deals, it's an amazing feeling of achievement after each longer run, I think that's enough for me though, I can't quite commit to the thought of training for a marathon.
