I’m going to put my max HR up a little again. The 4 minute intervals in zones 4&5 were too easy to reach and hard to come down from. By race day, I might actually get them spot on. Nearly there!
It’s clouding over now, but it was gorgeous when I went out to run, sunny and warm enough to work up a bit of a sweat. That autumn feeling is established now. Lovely to be out there enjoying the elements, squirrels streaking along and belting up trees on the edge of Albert park; red kites and gulls wheeling and coasting overhead.
I’m keeping an eye on my various pairs of running shoes, seeing which are most comfortable for race day, testing out lacing so that it is tight enough to avoid the shoes slipping but loose enough to give my feet room to swell over distance. I wore the On Cloudsurfers today: they are roomier in the toe box than the Cloudflyers, and they’re very nippy for doing intervals, but I’m not sure how they will perform over half marathon distance, and they are a bit more slippy when it’s wet. I’m hoping I can get the Cloudflyers laced properly to avoid the foot pain I had when I did the 10 mile run, as they are designed to be worn for longer distances.
Picture of me looking a bit manic in my comic strip capris and Lonely Goat Club t-shirt, just because it will be too cold to wear short sleeves and leggings soon. Round my wrist is a tag nix wrist band with my name, town and two emergency phone numbers, a very good idea I got from someone on one of the running forums.
Look at you looking glamorous!!! Well done for persevering with the HR training, you can definitely do it!!! And it's very interesting to read about 😊😊😊
There's definitely a bit of a chill in the air these days, at least at night. Although we've been having some crazy warm winds here the last couple of days 🤔
Lacing is such a bother, isn't it?!! Have you tried Googling "lacing techniques" - loads to try, e.g. : realbuzz.com/articles-inter...
I wear my parkrun barcode wristband on long runs (well, when I remember to!) which has my name and home number on it.
Glamorous??? You are VERY kind xxx And thank you 😊❤️
I find it’s a matter of getting the tension just right in various areas of the foot. I darent I pick my laces in case I never get them back the same way. It’s hard with the Cloudflyers as they have the star lacing system at the front of the shoe. I can’t use heel lock as it gives me Achilles pain.
Yep, the year has turned. My heating is coming on now at certain times of day! Xx
It’s the ‘coming down from’ that gets me too! How do people actually do that without walking? I am thinking about doing a bit of tinkering with my Max HR zones as HR does seem to be coming down (slowly) but it sounds like there isn’t an exact science to it. Well done for persevering with it all. Love the leggings and the safety wristband is a fabulous idea. I do all my long runs alone so probably need to invest in one of these if God forbid something went wrong. Did you just order online?
Yes, exactly, coming down from! I refuse to walk now. I initially took my max hr from the highest on my runs, but I’m running faster at lower bpm now, so it needed tinkering with. The overall trend is improvement though, so something is working!
Yes, I ordered online. Here is the link for Tag Nix, the one I use, but there are loads more
