HM training week11 day4 - intervals: av pace 8.45min/km

The diagram of the planned run was too long to get all in a screenshot, but the warmup was 16 minutes, so 40 minutes in all. Three lots of 5mins in zone 4 was tough.

Gorgeous day again though, but a very chilly start. The leaves are showing definite shades of red and gold here and there, and a clump of tiny pink cyclamen on a grassy verge, spotlit with rays of sun, made me regret not carrying my phone.

The splits in zone 4 were all around 8.30min/km. I just don’t understand why I’m so much slower since I began this training, even if I really push myself. Last year that much effort would have got me and average of 7.30min/km, hills and all. I can only think that all the slow training runs get your pace down so you can cover the distance without burning out.

Might just be the amount of training you're doing. The taper will have you in good condition for the race.

Oh, ok, perhaps that’s it, though the slow running means none of my runs cover much distance, just time. I will be glad to get round my HM even if it is slow 🤨

Yeah I agree with this. I had a week rest and I couldn't keep my heartrate down in zone 3. It had to be zone 4 but when I checked my data my pace was up too so it was ok. I only get peeved if I hit zone 4 and I'm still in a slow pace. I do think you now need your taper to start though, your training has been tough. Xx

Taper starts on the 30th! :) I shall be glad! xx

I would not worry too much regarding pace, 8.30min/km is fine, nice run for you again this morning on a nice Autumn day,

I wasn't at a parkrun today, instead I ran run 3 of week 5, a 20 minutes run along the route that I ran my graduation run of C25K last year, (30 minutes then)it was a bit windy and at times I had to hold on to my running cap in case it blew away. 😊

I wouldn’t be this fast on the day as I will be sticking to zones 2&3 for most of it, I hope. Today I was pushing hard in zone 4 for a total of of 15 minutes and still slow!

I’m enjoying hearing about the latest developments in your running journey 😊

Nice that you are following my running journey Flick, next Saturday will be my 6th parkrun, but at another parkrun that I have not been to, so because of that, I will have to go to the first timers briefing, even someone who has ran 150 parkruns or more but has never ran at that particular place before still has to go to the first timers briefing.

Can't help on the pacing I'm afraid but it sounds as though others who understand this method of training have reassured you a little, Flick. Well done on your commitment to the training though, I am sure it will all pay off on the day!👍🙂
