Yikes, 25 minutes in zones 1&2 then up into zone 4 for 20 minutes. I didn’t manage it. I think I’ve set my zones a bit high as it’s hard to reach 4&5. I’ve taken it down a bit. I’m fitter than last year and my hr when running is lower. It’s tricky getting the balance right. I’ve tried various formulae and keep tinkering (I always was a terrible tweaker), but the main thing is my running is improving.
Tired again today but feel much better for a run, especially in this glorious weather. Sunny with that feel of autumn in the air. The conker cases are swelling to bursting point and some of them are down on the ground, grinning shiny chestnut treasure. It was cold when we took the dogs out, so I wore long leggings, which turned out to be a mistake - second time in a week - but it wasn’t unbearably hot, just a bit warm on the legs. But I’m afraid the lovely summer weather is coming to an end and I will soon be forcing myself to brave the cold.
The training plan is getting tougher. The foundation weeks are done and now the runs are getting longer and more intense. However, there is an easy week every four weeks; and the plan adjusts to you so that it will suggest throttling back or pushing on, according to how you are coping.
Yes, there was a distinct nip in the air yesterday morning 🙂. I ran a short recovery run and felt warm enough but I wore a lightweight jacket. Ditto this morning. Just putting a plaster over my blister before setting off It’s bright out though so hoping to feel some sun 🌞
I’m pushing on with my running as got a half and a full marathon coming up, plus a hill race and a flat race on cleethorpes prom. looking forward to a day at the seaside. This week is an easier week as there’s no long run, just a 12k today, which is a relief 😤😀
The town is bucking the trend and its centre is bustling with independent shops and markets - indoor and out They’ve rejected big supermarkets so far They’ve got a swimming pool and a theatre, which is cool for a town that size
Their Run for life is hugely popular. I did it last year but missed out this year My nieces and great nephew ran it though 🙂
Aw Flick, good work! Keep going (as I know you will!) I am loving the cooler weather; I feel human again! I wish I had got out today as it is such a beautiful one, but I had my Pilates class, which I would not miss for the world. Long run tomorrow, when it will be raining gah!
I am starting to feel a little tired myself, after what feels like weeks and weeks of relentless training. Actually really looking forward to an easier week next week (as I am away in Edinburgh) and my taper weeks (the final two weeks) of training. Just 18k and 19k to tackle first! I am looking forward to running the race itself, but for the first time, looking forward to the weeks that follow when I can again run "freestyle".
You see, you’re getting the distance in, while mine and Clairecandothis ’s training is about zones and time. This was why I did my 10miler last week- a mistake in some ways, as I should have trusted the plan would get me there, but in others ways I’m glad I now have the reassurance that I can do the distance too.
Once you’ve done 18 & 19 You will KNOW you can do the full half (if you see what I mean). You are so close. Never doubt yourself. I’m interested to see how those of us approaching our HMs are wobbling mentally and also beginning to show signs of fatigue. We will be fine if we ever do it again. Actually I WILL be doing it again as I deferred Blenheim half to next September. I will use the plan again!
But I totally agree with the bit about looking forward to running freestyle again. There are unexplored footpaths that I haven’t been able to fit into the training plan, and I’m longing to take my phone and take photos again xxx
I can't figure out how to download it grr... you are good at tech lol not me! Google Mcmillan training longest long run in a marathon training. He talks about a specific training pace based on your heatrate and that time on feet is important.
I was like you for two years (and the times I ran in my teens). However, I’m 72, I have a badly mangled, weak leg, and dog induced breathing difficulties, so I knew if I wanted to accomplish finishing a half, I would need some sort of training. And it’s been incredibly motivating. If I had to do it all the time, I would rebel, but I can do it for this few weeks. It’s really improved my running no end. After that I will go back to my mostly trails exploratory photography runs, until Oxford Town & Gown in the spring, for which i think I will use a plan again. Then Blenheim half autumn 2020. After that I probably can’t afford to enter any more races x
Edit: I’m helped by the fact that I enjoy the technology 😊 oh, and thank you lovely ❤️
