HM training week12 day4

Intervals today, starting with 14 minutes in zones 1 2 & 3. It was an effort to do three lots of zone4/5. I’m weary and ready to taper and can’t, at this stage, imagine being able to run 21k as just 5 is knackering me now. Also, my pace is definitely slower now, even with intervals. My best pace was 9.10min/km- two or three minutes slower than this time last year for the same amount of effort. Never mind, I’m sure the plan knows what it’s doing 🤨

Another beautiful day anyway. There are worse ways to spend part of your morning.

How’s the knee today Flick? I’ve been following your HM training with interest and I’m in awe of you battling away day after day. And I can’t wait to see how you do on the day. Im going to watch Jo go off for the Barnstaple HM in October but I will be with you in spirit when you do yours .

Im still struggling with alternate days. I don’t feel as fit as I was earlier in the year. This summer has taken it out of me - I don’t do well in the heat.

But I’m enjoying these last few days when it’s cooler but still dry and sunny. Great foraging weather. I went to pick my daughter up from Tiverton train station and bagged a load of rosehips while I waited for her train to come in ( Late again!!)

I appreciate the support Lou ❤️😊

The knee isnt as bad today. The problem I have is that it was so badly injured in the past that knocking it causes fluid buildup inside. Hopefully it will be better by mid October.

I’m the opposite to you, I do better in summer and get very drained running when it’s cold. I read somewhere that we are in for another beast from the east type of winter, so it will be back on the treadmill for me. I really can’t cope with slippery pavements ☹️🥶

It’s a good year for foraging, I’m guessing: lots of berries and nuts around. Sweet chestnuts here. We had lots when I lived in France. It was so disappointing to find they were riddled with maggots 🤢

Eeewww I dont like chestnuts anyway but we are off to pick hazelnuts later

I love tinned chestnuts. Very savoury chopped up and added to soups or stews. Happy hazelnut picking! 😀

Nice coulerful chart from you again Flick, so today was interval day, some say that is much more tiring than a continuous run, good example of that being runs 1 and 2 of week 6 of C25K after the non stop 20 minutes of W5R3, just take your runs slowly, that way you should not get too tired

I know that you are interested on what I do on a Saturday morning, this morning I ran a PB 30.55. 5k Parkrun at Drumpelliier park/trail, thats is about 10 miles east of Glasgow City centre, it is mainly flat compared to my usual run at Dunfermline which is nearer Edinburgh than Glasgow. Have a good weekend. 😊 🏃

Hi Alan, the point of the intervals I’d you push into the higher heart rate zones, which should mean you are going somewhere between pushing hard and flat out 😊

Well done for that time, that’s really excellent!

Keep going Flick.

I've gone south to extend my summer. 3 days travelling so yesterday morning I was ready for a decent run. There's a river bed that goes steadily up into the mountains. After 6 miles I thought I better turn round and come back.

I was thinking this is worse than Chippin Flippin Norton even though I've never been there. Just shy of 12 miles with no targets to meet. You'll be fine on race day.

Today Madame Loris said "Shall we walk to the port for lunch?" She'd clearly forgotten it's six miles away. She's resting now.

in reply toSlowLoris

That did make me laugh. Is she recovered now? 😀

Yes, chipping flipping Norton, the only thing I liked about it was the ubiquitous hills. So very happy to have escaped. Narrow minded little Englanders taking pot shots at wildlife and hunting things to extinction. I never want to see it again!

Your run sounds amazing. Have you posted it? Did I miss it. Going south to extend summer is an excellent idea. I’m not looking forward to winter running AT ALL!

And thank you for the vote of confidence. I’m still by no means convinced I shall be up to it 😳😂

I didn't really get a chance to post it. Busy catching up with friends we haven't seen for months. I may post this morning's run. It was 5 miles but much harder work. Probably just a cumulative effect. I'm starting to recognise how I feel when I push the effort in either pace or distance. That's why I'm confident you'll be fine after tapering.

Thanks, that’s encouraging. Knackered after this mornings run

Keep going Flick you can do it!! So close now xxx

in reply toBecky1606

Thank you 😊 Yes, scarily close. 10k exhausted me this morning so I hope tapering will give me back some energy! Xxx
