HM training week5 day1

Running in a deluge today. Also very slow for a chunk of it to stay in the lower two zones. Then having to push up into zone 4 for 25 minutes. My chest is very congested, so what I gain because it’s cooler I then lose because my heart is working harder because I can’t breathe. I’m never going to be able to increase pace to what it could be while Dennis the dog is part of my life- it’s a massive problem. If I’m ever away from the house for a few hours before I run, my chest clears and my pace and endurance improve. But never mind, at least I’m out there running and enjoying myself.

It was just cool and damp for the first half of this run. Then the heavens opened: rods of rain piercing the river like spears; boats moored along the bank bucking with the turbulence; the tree line on the far bank a tousled mass of thrashing leaves.

I got lost on a small housing estate, but a network of alleys and cycle tracks led me back into Preston Road, the Drayton road, and home to pack my shoes with newspaper and brew a coffee.

Oh Flick, you do have a challenge to contend with because of pesky (but lovely) Dennis. 🙁 But what a trooper you are; well done on your run. 👍 Does he ever stop moulting?! xxx

in reply toSadie-runs

Thank you dearest Sadie ❤️ Noooo, he literally never stops moulting, it just gets worse at certain times of year (like now!). I dropped heavy hints to his daddy but nothing has happened regarding clipping yet. I took matters into my own hands a couple of years ago and cut his coat myself. I don’t think I’m brave enough to do it again: one sulking dog and a histrionic bloke going on about “you’ve cut his posh pants; you’ve broken my heart!” ...

Haha makes me laugh!! We always say my floofy Luna cat wears fluffy joggers all year round. She is such a hairy beast. Part maine Coone/ part Beast of Bodmin

in reply tolimberlou

Wow, if she’s part Maine coone she must be huge! Dennis is part collie part spitz (we think) so has that very full coat with a fluffy undercoat, so very voluminous pants 😂

Yeah Luna has really hairy feet, tufts between her toes, and coming out of her ears too like a little old man. She is only just a year old and is bigger than my Snow Bengal X, and has such a plumy tail.

She sounds gorgeous

Nice that you are keeping us all up to date with your runs Flick, graphics tell you everything you want to know, nice run you had today despite the heavy rain, glad you are enjoying yourself running and Dennis the dog with you as well.

in reply toAlMorr

Thank you. Dennis doesn’t come running though- he just screws up my breathing with his hair😳

That is quite a jump from zone 2 to zone 4! I only ever jump from 2 to 3.... hmmm I'm questioning my plan now! Maybe marathon training is different but I wouldn't think so. You are doing well to stay in the zones and to run out in the rain today! Xx

Thanks for pointing out that it was zone 4 not 3 as I wrote 😊❤️. Probably it’s because you are doing twice the distance with a marathon. As I understand it, you would expect to run 10k at a faster pace than a HM, so it would make sense for a marathon to be slower still. After all, most people walk part of a marathon, it’s just going to be a slower race altogether.

The rain was fun as it isnt too chilly atm xx

Well done Flick... I was thinking after I read about the issues with the dog... is there any kind of air purifier... One with a HEPA filter maybe... ?

in reply toOldfloss

I will look into it, but I’m not sure if there is xxx

Just a cursory glance, suggests that there are some which really help with animal hair?reviews... I hope so... don't like to think of you coughing and struggling; I know what you say about the clipping, but there has to be some compromise? You are most definitely brave enough!! :) x
