How are you? Has it freshened up where you are? We had some torrential rain yesterday (unusual for here, and also just after I'd washed the car, curses!), and then the sun came out and it got really quite warm again! Tell us all your news in the comments πππ
I meant to post about this last week, but who is signed up for the Brighton Marathon or 10K? There was an email from them last week with a 'teaser' about what they are going to do instead of the cancelled September event - this is what they want to do on Sunday October 11th:
"Brighton Marathon Weekend | The Edit has been designed to unite our 2020 BM10k and Brighton Marathon participants in a truly unique way. Starting from a safe and socially distanced event site, runners will take on a fast, flat, 10k course lined with great DJs and bands before crossing their respective finish lines and picking up their medal.
HOW WILL IT WORK?
Brighton Marathon runners will finish their marathon journey here with a final 10k (6.2 mile run) to the finish, following a 20-mile virtual challenge
BM10k participants will start and finish their 10k here
Both events will have their own finish lines to recognise the amazing achievements
This is everything youβd want from a virtual run with something you donβt get: running with others AND a physical finish line."
Not sure how this will work at all! I presume we are supposed to do the virtual 20-miler on a different day. But I'm not sure how they will achieve social distancing for the 10K. Also they haven't had final approval from the Council yet. We shall see - they will send more info later. It's intriguing anyway!
Anyone else feeling confused at the moment?
As always, if you're new here, or just taking a look and getting comfortable before posting, hello! This post is a great place to introduce yourself if you're ready to do so.
Have a great week, everyone!!!

If you are planning a virtual race, visit the post linked here to let us know about it and we'll try our best to give you a pom pom cheer:
Hi roseabi that seems like an interesting concept, but like you I'm not sure how it will work. It'll be interesting to see whether they receive approval from the council. If they do, and it works well, it might be a model that other events could use where possible. It's all a bit vague and full of ifs and buts, so who knows what will happen.
I'm so pleased the horrible heat and humidity seems to have disappeared, at least for now, and I can get out there again in decent weather!
In terms of what I'm up to, I'm doing the HUHM 10K challenge this week. It seems the consensus is I should run my 10K on Saturday - my 57th birthday.
I've also started the virtual Lands End to John O'Groats (LEJOG) challenge this morning, with a 3K run. Only another 1,405.18K to go! I think there are a fair people on here who are also doing the LEJOG challenge, or the Wales Coastal Path challenge.
Have a good week everyone, stay safe and run happy!
I suggest that you sue the government about your A level result ... oh, hang on, wrong conversation...
The Brighton stuff does indeed sound intruiging - fingers crossed that somebody gets a real race to participate in this year.
Last week's running was promising in getting the weekly distance up (25k) and also an 11k on Saturday (plus a good yellow-car score of 8 - fans of "Cabin Pressure" will know what I mean there) Concentrating on enjoying being out and not going for a specific"time" is good. Breathing properly is easy for me to forget - getting the head up is not only good for enjoyment but aids breathing too. There were lovely drifts of Himalayan balsam along the south (shady and damp) side of the ring road and lots of daisies and poppies on the north (drier and sunnier) side . The balsam is almost over now and berries are becoming abundant. Aiming for 27-28k this week and 12k ish at the weekend.
Good running and injury-free wishes to all in the week ahead.
I'm in a permanent state of confusion these days and yoga inversions aren't helping (I don't mean they make it worse, but they don't fix it!).
I've been looking at a few local(ish) HM events that seem to be runnin. They're all trail runs - maybe because those generally have lower entry numbers and are less risk to the general public, being held in quieter locations? I read details for one (RunReading Multi terrain HM) where they estimate a density of 1 runner per 100m of course, 2 runners per minute over the finish line (with staggered starts based on speed, so in theory there should be very little overtaking required). Take your own water/fuel. Medals and a water bottle at the end on a self service basis. No spectators. I think that event has a limit of 450 runners. Events will feel very different than they once did.
In other news - I ran 19k yesterday with virtually no resulting blister (some 'heat' during the run but no relentless 'burn') and no bruised toenails! For me that is amazing and so,so welcome. I was in my trail shoes, so have yet to see if that can be repeated in my Cliftons - but there may be hope!!! Oh happy days π€ͺ.
Take care everyone and have fun whether your goals are real or virtual π
He only needs 15 runners to make it a go-er. Thatβs the required entry criteria for the 100 Marathon Club peeps. Iβve run it when thereβs been 21. Some runners sign up for the double, eg a marathon on both the Saturday and the Sunday, but may well not run the Sunday if they pick up an injury on the Saturday, so the field could end up not being full on the Sunday, which is when I run it π
We had heavy rain last night but it was very hot this afto. It was my rest day though π. I was sweating cobs in the greenhouse instead π₯΅πΆπ₯π
Although my November marathon is cancelled Iβm going to train as normal. I fear Iβll never get going again if I stop.
Iβve been doing inversions too Linda to see if moving my blood about will help my psoriasis. You never know π€·ββοΈπ.
I did just under 17 km run in the pouring rain yesterday but better than sweltering heat. I remembered my snack this time.
Intervals tomorrow πββοΈ
Have a good week everyone πππββοΈπββοΈ
Iβm confused on a good day so Iβve no idea what they want you to do! π€·ββοΈ
I reached out to the race director about my October race. So far it is still on, but they will be making the final decision 4 weeks prior in Sept. My training is still going well. I got a 30k in on Saturday on the actual trail course loop just to get a sense of the terrain. There are more than a few hills π It was really hot and a bit of an adventure with me getting stung by a wasp and my running mate falling onto an already damaged shoulder. Lots of tree roots! At first I thought the wasp missed fully stinging me, but my leg swelled up on Monday and is still red and itchy today. Not really painful though. I can still run on it. The route was beautiful and well marked. I am 4-5 weeks behind on training after the injuries, so just taking it one week at a time.
That sounds like an extreme trail experience Decker! Ouch, the wasp sting sounds painful. Glad itβs not impacting your running. Happy trails! ππ
That does sound confusing roseabi. I hope the council agree to letting it go ahead in some form, although nothing is straightforward at the moment.
Iβm occupying myself with (Not) PR, LEJOG4, the virtual runs on here (thanks for those!) and an upcoming Virtual London Vitality 10000. Plenty of running and Iβm making the most of it. ππββοΈ
If the council hasnβt approved it yet......π€ mmmnnn confusing times...
I ran 18K on Saturday and surprisingly found out that Iβm better running in high humidity than high temperatures. It wasnβt that bad at all just a bit slower and stickier π₯΅ and dare I say it, I found it ok and was still able to run my fastest split on the last k and could have gone on π
Iβm now on taper (I never know whether I should taper if Iβm not running an actual race) and will then go for the 21. Iβm still looking for a virtual or real event so I can get some bling. Iβm not doing this for no bling ππ (terrible grammar)
Not much running from me still, the doc reckons my foot injury from way back in June (digging my veg plot at dads ! Which btw is looking good now!π) was probably Tendonitis but the sore bit is nearly gone now just the main annoying thing is puffiness most evenings.
Ran 4 miles with club last week in small groups and tomorrow heading for the coast with few friends for an early trot.
Still have one race here in late Sept which looks like it might be going ahead, and a virtual Needles HM to do at some point to warm a pretty medalπ hope everyone doing ok,happy running ππππxxx
This week I was delighted to find that my local non-urban running route has opened up again, after some repair work on the bridges it takes in. I say non-urban, it's not really but it feels it, Edinburgh has lots of disused railway lines that have been turned into cycling and running network, and they're so leafy and cool and green. You can go miles and miles on them if you like, and soon I will...but this time round just a wee 6k out and back. Lovely.
The Paris HM is cancelled completely - it was postponed twice and now is completely cancelled - everyone signed up is automatically entered for April 2021
