Hi not posted for a while. I did the Brighton Half marathon almost two weeks ago and got a PB (from 4:13:09 at Cardiff Half to 4:10:00 at Brighton Half 3mins and 9secs off) so was happy. I am currently training for my first marathon in Brighton on 14th April. I am due to do a long run of 18 miles this week however I hate running around my local area except for short runs so I'm considering going to the gym and doing it on the treadmill. I have done 16.05 miles on the treadmill which I actually managed to finish. I know if I go outside I will struggle. I know the marathon will be outside but it won't be local and surely it's about time on my feet regardless what the surface is like.
I have Weston Super Mare half marathon on 24th March so will just be doing 10K next week (16th March)

I like running (apart from organised events) in peace and solitude. For that I get up early and run when only the occasional dog walker or person on the early shifts is around.
I have never run on a treadmill, but I imagine that there would be a great deal of clock/distance watching involved. Is there somewhere you could travel to for a nice run, fresh air and a change of scenery?
I don't watch the clock when on the treadmill . I have had some wireless headphones for my birthday so I listen to music when I run. I wouldn't know where to go and I have the dilemma of not knowing my way around. Also to go anywhere decent requires an early start to get the most out of the trip. The shortest trip would be to Cardiff but costs money unless you book in advance.
I run indoors a lot and one place I run is on an indoor arena track. it's a sweaty old business with an ambient 20-23 deg C and no wind. On a treadmill you could put a big ventilation fan infront of it? I never ran far on a treadmill when I was last a gym member but most gyms have rules about how long you can use it for before giving way to others who want a go?
Edit - Forgot to say that joining a local runners club might work? Running groups know all the best paths/routes/watering holes.
I usually check when I go. Last time I went I said what I was planning to do and there was no problem. There were quite a few treadmills and it wasn't busy.
