After reading @turnturtles wonderful post about her run in Berlin, I thought I would write about the half marathon in Ealing. As always (it was the 5th event this year, and the 4th I have done) it was beautifully organised, no queues for loos or bag drop, started bang on time, plenty of water stops etc. The weather was perfect - cool start, and then sun came out and shone once we had finished!
My training had been quite focused this year with lots of interval training and tempo runs, and it certainly paid off. I felt really strong all the way round, didn't have to stop to walk at all, and even the hills were OK! The support from people all round the course was amazing, lots of jelly babies offered, and cheering. Music along the course included local bands and the Hanwell Ukelele Group who kept us going at the bottom of a tough old hill at mile 8/9!
I did a PB of 1:58:09 which I was delighted with, and my son did 1:36:03 in his first half marathon - he has always said he didn't like running (swimming and cycling and football are his preferred sports!) but now loves it and thanked me for inspiring him to have a go, which was quite emotional for me.
I was absolutely shattered later and slept all afternoon!
Next half? Maybe the Hampton Court one in February...

Wow, that's just brilliant, what a great time! You look so fresh too, that's never your son is it? I thought it was your boyfriend. You must have used Palmolive....(showing my age...) XXX
Thank you - I am so pleased. Last year I did the Royal Parks half marathon in 2:03:03, so I am very happy with this time - it's the interval training I am absolutely sure.
