Confused.

I have come to this experienced group for advice.

I am a novice runner repeating the C25k programme because of injury.

Some may know I have been involved in supporting an independent green gym and the formation of a C25k sub group.

I am not pleased by the following ,

The leadership and knowledge.

Came to this with good intentions and wanted to see people give themselves the gift of running.

So frustrated to operate within this ignorant and winging it regime.

As a novice and with the respect of C25k and all that is HealthUnlocked I am just ready to walk and do my own thing.

Sorry Tbae that you are so dispondent, quite a change from last year when you were so happy with your running, I think perhaps you were just putting in too much effort to your runs, not to say that you should not have ran a HM but it must have as they say taken a lot out of you. I remember you saying that you were starting to train for the Great North Run but I think you were persuaded by friends not to run it. Perhaps you should just keep to 5K distance or the most 10K, that way you are less likely to be injured.

As far as I am getting on with my running, I just do it a little during my long walks, I usually take the C25K app with me and run week 2, one of the times I did that was a visit to Helensburgh in January on the exact same promenade as I ran my graduation run last June, I am planning to go back to Helensburgh on Saturday 6th April and rerun week 3 of C25K, I'll see how that goes, finally, just to cheer you up, remember last June 18th when during my graduation run that guy shouting at me when I was running "goan yer'self, I'll aways remember that

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan,

Thanks, I am very happy with my own progress off the couch.

Certainly do not regret any of it and looking to get back to my 15 sessions a week.

It’s my involvement with giving back and not being completely in control, in the most generous way, that is just hard work and very frustrating.

I’m not sure exactly what’s happened with the group, Tbae, but

I’m sorry to hear it’s frustrating you. ❤️❤️

Hi MD ,

Long story, suspicious from the start.

Still got on board.

I am have the greatest respect for the tried and tested C25k programme, where others in their ignorance may not.

Just an example, but it will not sit comfortably with me.

Hope you are healing.👊💥🏃‍♀️🌟

Ah, sorry to hear that Tbae. ❤️ I suspect a lot of people who start C25k on their own end up “doing their own thing”.

I think the great thing about this forum is that we can learn from each other’s mistakes. So when our wonderful admins or other members see a post from a new C25ker taking short cuts etc they can jump in with personal experience, or examples from our collective experience, to suggest why it’s probably best not to. I suspect some more headstrong individuals may still just disappear from here and continue to do things that aren’t recommended. Some will get away with it, and no doubt think us all over cautious. Others won’t...

You can only do your best. As the old saying goes, “you can take a horse to water...”

I’m healing ok thanks. Not hooking up to Strava until I’m running properly again. I’m on 1min Run / 30 secs walking intervals on a treadmill for now, but things are improving. Not sure I’ll make the Chester HM, but we shall see. My own C25k head says it would involve building distance back up far too quickly, but my Sports Therapist still seems to think it may be possible...

Oh Tbae, I'm sad that this isn't working out as well as you'd hoped. I agree with Mountaindreamer that its very easy for some people to feel they can tweak the progran to fit in with their own ideas, and they may or may not come undone.

Of course we know the program works, it has just the right amount of progression and the satisfaction gained from completing a session helps you gain confidence and self-esteem. Every run builds for the next. Saying this however, every individual makes their own journey, taking as long as they need to. The main pitfalls are not taking rest days and trying to do more than is required. This is what may lead to injury.

All you can do is guide and encourage your group, they have to take responsibility for the actual running themselves as you know.

I totally understand and wouldn't like to hear the c25k plan being maligned either if this is what you are saying.

Concentrate on your own comeback journey they will soon see your progress.

Keep your chin up😊.

You are actually more knowledgeable than most because you have taken so much on board.😊xxx

Thanks Jan.

Too many contradictions for comfort,

Better just let people get on with doing their stuff. Both on the C25k and Green Gym.

First time in my life I have found an objection/non-acceptance to formalising things in writing to be unhelpful and not required.

Just wing everything.🤔🙈

Too many don't want to put the work in and wait for results. Instant gratification is everywhere and some think they can get it here too. 👍😉

Don't let them pull you down Bob, or wind you up! Save the energy for the workouts 😁

You can't reason with the unreasonable Tbae. If a group is malignant, walk away. Life is too short old friend.

Glad you are back with us and did not give up running :)

Tough lesson to learn John at approaching 76.🙈🤔😂😂

Must be as thick as two short planks.🙈😂

Still my old friend I have got my trotting and the magic forum.

I am going to complete the final 18 runs on my own and just for the joy of running.

Nothing else really matters.

That is so wise and reassuring John.Thank you.

Will never walk away from the magic forum.

I hope you are good.It is just a blink John, you are so right.

Must say I have found repeating C25k in a group an immense pleasure until the recognition of how things really are.

Enough of my bleating, your right I have the gift of running thanks to this magic forum.

I'm not much of a Joiner, and always hated being a Leader. People are just too complicated and without an inherent agreement in a group to observe SOME form of a Protocol, Discipline or Standards...it all turn turk at some point or other anyway.

If it ain't helpful, fun or remunerative... I ain't doin' it anymore 😊

Perhaps it’s the informality that is the key. Participants in these informal groups will all have different reasons for joining in and their goals will equally be different and that is the beauty of them, e.g for some the social aspect will outweigh the physical.

The programme is just a guide after all, and is accessible to anyone who wishes to use it and to whatever stage. We’re all different.

Hope you find a solution that meets your needs.

Thanks Madge, that is all very true and so important and well understood.

It is particularly true for our all abilities Green Gym but less true for the tried and tested C25k and building a running body first time round and whose wish is to do it in a group and be lead through it.

Perhaps that is the problem now and things can change.🤔Thanks.

Hi Tbae

Sorry to hear about your frustrations. In my experience as a teacher the children who are most negative and likely to whinge are those who are most afraid of failing. Perhaps the folk you are struggling with are finding it far more challenging than they want to admit and worried about not being successful and so are blaming the programme rather than confronting their own weaknesses (this word not being used in a derogatory sense).

I wonder if allowing the people you are trying to encourage a session where they can talk about their vulnerabilities and share the struggles they are having might help and of course to recognise that we're all on our own journey and grown up enough to make decisions about what to do without bringing everyone else down. It's easy for people to think they are the only one having doubts or difficulties (as you and I know HU is brilliant just because it prevents that isolation) so maybe getting people to open up about the challenges will help.

Of course some folk will never admit that they might be the ones who need to change their mindset and there comes a time when you have to let them get on with it (even if that means they'll fail).

Glad that you at least are getting out there and are on your running legs again.

Gosh Debs this is just so wise and so professional.

It is also quite ironic that just after wk3.3 this morning there was an outburst about trivia and unfortunately the real issue was two members were struggling with undeclared injuries.

I have done by best to support them in there preferences and have tried to encourage them onto the magic forum. Not all have downloaded the C25k app.,and only two to date have completed all the runs.Three including myself.

Too much detail Debs, but I have walked regretfully this morning on completing three weeks.

So much wisdom and especially yours, from the forum, and there was never going to be an open and transparent environment.

Actually it has been around for the formation of the new group main and then the subsequent sub group.

Trying to be discrete, diplomatic and balanced with my reply to you Debs.

All is so much less important than our health, fitness ,wellbeing and just the joy and pleasure of running.

Would have done anything to see it all the way through, and even to be involved in a rolling programme.

Really disappointed.

But I will finish the remaining 18 runs and cling to the magic forum.

Hope you are all good and again thank you for taking the time and sharing your impressive knowledge and wisdom.Just love it❤️

No more grinding down because I have walked away and left it to them.

Wish them well and now I am back to enjoying my journey.

Must say that I did enjoy making a contribution and thought I was doing my best.

That is for others now.

Hope all going well for you.
