I’m pleased to say I managed to finish in yesterday’s Anglesey half, my first race. I caught a cold after Christmas which put a dent in my training plan, then had a niggly knee which had me down to one run a week, but I managed to shave a minute off my (only) previous 21.2k time to come in with a net time of 2:40:59.
Best of all I’m already thinking “what next?”, and hopeful I can shave off the minutes as the weeks and months go by.

Thanks, everyone. It was certainly a bit damp for the last hour or so. The biggest surprise was the climb after Beaumaris Castle; I wasn’t expecting that!
I’m toying with the Cardiff Half Marathon in October. I’ve got family nearby so maybe make a weekend of it. Also looking forward to running just for fun, and my wife and I are both thinking about doing some Parkrun tourism; maybe even starting this weekend, if the running gear is feeling better by then. Still a bit stiff today...
It’s a lovely course, with some beautiful views. None more beautiful than Bangor pier on the way back—then you know there’s only a couple of miles to go.
Beautiful. And belatedly (sorry!) I must thank the legions of marshalls all along the route for their encouragement, and all the well-wishing spectators. It took me a while to work out how come so many people knew my name (durrr!).
Well done iestynp and good time that hill from beaumaris was a really tough one it drains the legs but you carried on well done again hope to see you on start line again next year.
Fantastic! I have only done one HM myself so far, but the buzz I felt on finishing, lasted all week! Well done for completing it despite your niggly knee....and I will look out for hearing that you have entered the next one!👍🏃🏻🏅😀
