On my last long run I developed a bit of a niggle in my left glute. I stretched it as well as I could afterwards and again in yoga a couple of days later. The next few shorter runs it seemed fine but then on today's long run it came back after about 10k and stayed niggling the rest of the way (20k). It's not really painful, just uncomfortable, like an ache deep inside. A couple of times it suddenly got worse - a weird, "hollow" feeling I thought (if that makes any sense!) and a weakness spread down my leg, making it give way for a split second. Very odd. Wondered if anyone else has experienced anything similar? I'm thinking of getting a deep sports massage on it. And also starting to do my strength exercises again, which I seem to have abandoned! That'll teach me! Hope this doesn't turn into anything worse, only a few weeks left until my half marathon! Thank you for any advice π³

I'm sure it's an injury waiting to happen for me - I'm going for the full set! But not something I've experienced as yet.
However I can vouch for deep tissue sports massage - the guy I go to is really knowledgeable and usually advises whether to run on or not and what to work on strengthening (and how).
I'm very good at strengthening exercises while something hurts, but rubbish as soon as it feels better!
See someone as soon as you can and get yourself some peace of mind. Good luck and feel better soon π
Thanks Linda, yes I will see someone asap, it's making me nervous! I have a couple of recommendations, just deciding which one to go for... Have your injuries got better now?
I'm not going to say I'm better because that would just tempt fate! And really I'm not. Would it tempt fate too much to say it hasn't got any worse for a while? I'm learning to live with it? I just want to get past 24th March - maybe 13th April if I decide to enter the Coast HM - and after that I absolutely promise to give it a breakπ
I get something like that down from my right hip - itβs around the hip flexor and like yours can suddenly make my leg feel like itβs giving way, otherwise a dull nagging pain. Strength training and deep stretching in a steam room seems to be working well for me, but my right side is still less flexible than my left. Hope that helps?
Thanks Dave, that sounds similar to mine. I have googled lots of stretches (including one sitting on a tennis ball which looks potentially painful!) and will give them a go later when I've warmed up with a doggy walk ππππ
Not an expert but sounds a little like your Piriformis. Try googling Piriformis syndrome. I would definately get an appointment with a good Sports physio too. Take care.π
I canβt afford massages etc etc so for me itβs rest A week off your legs feels good Worth a try first
I'm with you there miss-wobble! There are church mice with better liquidity than me so it's always time off for me π€£
Oh no Helen! Hope it's feeling better today xx
Thanks Marie, yes it does feel better today. I can still feel it at times - kept feeling it in the night, wasn't sleeping well. I've just been doing some stretches I found and hope they will ease it. I'm going to have a few days off running too. I just got a rowing machine off Freecycle so I'll give that a go instead!
Hey! Sorry I'm late getting to this - how does it feel now? xx
Hey roseabi that's ok, I know you've been away! Thank you for replying π Feeling a bit tender after another session with the tennis ball yesterday but overall it is getting better. I could only feel it a tiny bit now and then yesterday (before I did the massage). I am probably being overcautious because I wouldn't classify it as an injury, just a niggle, but I have taken a few days' break from running to stretch and massage to be on the safe side. My last run was Saturday just gone. I'm intending to have a little jog tomorrow to see if all ok and then I have a 10 mile race on Sunday! Do you think that's wise?? I'm going to take it easy, just jog/walk round.
