Hello everybody and welcome to Monday.... its a new day, a new week and a new opportunity to be determined to reach our goals... lets do this.....go!!

I have spent the weekend running in the woods which is my favourite happy thing to do.

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion :)

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Have a great week, and enjoy your runs :)

Ju-Ju, Roseabi and Rignold,

I've been busy this week! Had a couple of runs and a couple of swims, and in a Venn diagram moment included a swim-run :) I enjoyed doing these during my triathlon training last year, and I have membership at the pool until the end of July, so I thought I'd make the best of it.

The other run was yesterday (Sunday), and was partly me running up the hill to Preston Park, and partly joining a fun run organised by Decathlon. It was very very hot up there, but I managed to keep going :D After that I ran down into Brighton town to pick up my goody bag from the shop (see what they're doing there :) ) - which actually had a medal in it, wasn't expecting that! I'm still feeling pretty unfit for running, but my next training plan starts this weekend coming, so I'm hoping that'll help things along...

My biggest achievement last week, though, was my windsurfing! Yesterday I actually managed to sail on the sea!!!! I started windsurfing a couple of years ago, but progress has been very bitty - running events have kinda got in the way... We learn and practice on the Lagoon (conveniently a five minute walk from our flat), where the company Lagoon Watersports provide training and equipment - and then (in theory) progress to the sea. I did hope I might get onto the sea last year, but it didn't happen, so I have been quite determined to get there this time. But also pretty scared! Anyway. Did it!!!!! :D

You've had a very busy week. I had some very enjoyable windsurfing lessons on the lagoon many years ago but never made it onto open waters. Well done.

Just back from a 4 mile run, first timeout in 2 weeks. Good decision not to do the10 miles yesterday but should be fine for the Run Through event on Wednesday evening.

Thank you! It's fun isn't it :) Was lovely on the sea yesterday, gentle waves and gorgeous sunshine.

Wheee!! Good luck for Wednesday!!!!

A few friends are using windsurfing as cross-training and it's pretty popular across a few fora I read, so, thanks for bringing it to our attentions, it looks fun!!! (I am not planning on it just yet though, I am not a fan of water sports).

Well, that's fair enough :) I'm hoping someone will get a picture of me out there at some point so I can share it here - particularly if it's one where I'm upright :D

Wow sounds like loads of fun!! I am a little jealous! I miss the ocean and the pools at the gym!! How did you manage your training for your triathlon? I am quite keen to do one after the marathon in Sep using swimming and cycling as cross training in the mean time.

I recommend it highly, it's a lot of fun both to train and race! I did the Brighton & Hove Triathlon (the sprint one) last year, and I signed up for it again this year but have had to defer til 2019 unfortunately.

I just took this very basic Hal Higdon plan (the table near the bottom of the page) and followed it sort of - I modified it quite a bit because I thought it concentrated a bit too much on running, and I was mainly interested in improving my swimming. It's quite a busy schedule with only one rest day per week, but it's short. My favourite was the day where it just says "All 3 90 min" :D

I didn't have much of a clue about the bike to be honest, but next time I'm going to work harder on it, because that's the best way to a faster time :)

I also did a couple of training days that were hosted by a local tri club, which were fun and helpful - one of them was about transitions, very important to practice those! And also to do "brick" sessions, which are swim-bike or bike-run (swim-run is not really necessary for a tri, but I love it!). Oh, and I did a one day intensive sea-swimming course (I was scared of swimming in the sea, which was actually my main reason for doing a triathlon. I guess you don't have that problem though!). I swam in the sea, or in the pool on rough days.

I am keen to enter a sprint tri in December, there is one in September before my marathon but I don't think I would be ready? I suck at the mountain bike section but may manage it if it is on the road...

Septembers info:

What do you think? Should I try the tri ;)

roseabi profile image

Absolutely! You can use the September one as a training session, and really nail it in December.

Actually I think a lot of people don't worry too much about the bike for their first triathlon. Also, being a runner puts you ahead of the game. Be sure to get some bike-run brick sessions in, because running after cycling can be a bit of a shocker at first!

Now to find someone to do it with me, save up the money and convince my husband that I am not crazy for doing it! :)

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to DiveMonkey

Ah yes, pricey... That puts me off quite a bit!

DiveMonkey profile image
DiveMonkeyMarathon in reply to roseabi

They all are... But even the road races are getting pricey now and the trail runs are even more expensive!

This week running doesn't feel easy, but it was expected after the race, so I will take it nice and slow and I'll assess on Sunday... I am planning carefully my training for September half marathon, but to get where I want I need a plan that, for now, seems all too serious and scary... At times I am rethinking, but then I realised that I have decided to go for it, nobody forced me, so I'll risk it (as mentioned by roseabi "eyes on the price") and I will keep going to the end of September and hope for the best :)

I will be in Italy (in my home town for most of the time) for 5 weeks starting from the 15th of July! Hot, but it will give me back the space and feelings of when I was younger and used to run on those streets!

Last week was a little different for me - with the current speed challenge, I used my 10k run as my fast run, and took it a bit easier at a new (to me) parkrun on Saturday which was very enjoyable. I managed to fit in 3 body pump classes and a swim last week also, and started my hm training today for the Great East Run in September with a lovely 14km run this morning 😀. I used to do a fair bit of windsurfing 20 odd years ago - great fun. Thinking of doing some more kayaking - as I really enjoyed that on holiday in Cornwall last year..

My heel is still aching after Friday's waffle race. I've been to see my physio, and we've agreed that I'll take a full two days off between each run this summer to give my foot a chance to heal. So no St. George's 10 mile for me, but yes to the 5 K Dash and Splash. The kids and I have been dreaming of it since aliboo70 wrote about it last year.

Feeling a bit sore today after the weekend efforts but hoping to be ready to go again tomorrow with some fartlek training (normally 7-10km) and get my 5km time trial closer to 30min on Wed.

Upping my weekly kms to 30-40 so in between trying to finish most of a thesis chapter this week and avoiding the rain when it comes, there is another 15km race this weekend and add in another one or two additional runs :)

Rotten last week...no runs at all....and none for at least 6 weeks until my next MRI... HM now on hold due to possible stress fracture and associated issues:)

I shall follow folks on here though.. and walk my way to the HM in my period on the IC :)

Happy running each and everyone:) xx

Oh I’m sorry to hear about that Floss. Injuries are such a drag. I hope the fracture is not too serious and you are back running soon. Xx

I have been overloaded with work last week and not enough sleep so I’ve just been running to the asics plan. Missed my Saturday run due to a conflict too so I am jonesing for a longer run soon.

Final full training week for my upcoming 10k event. Looking forward to taper week next week, then just getting to the start line.

I'm now back from my 2 weeks of run/walking on the Camino de Santiago and I feel the legs have benefitted a lot despite the total running distance covered not being very high. I'm hoping it's given me a good base to act as the platform for my marathon training. Will start ramping up the training distances and looking to do a couple of steady-paced HMs too over next couple of months. Have to have a crack at my PB 10k time before the end of the month too!
