Hello everybody and welcome to Monday.... its a new day, a new week and a new opportunity to make some changes in our lives... Welcome to a new week!!!
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week.
Let us know how your training is going.....
If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
Have a great week, and enjoy your runs

Morning guys I posted a few weeks back as Iβve just signed up for my first half marathon which is in April next year .however Iβm now wondering if itβs a little too far away . Thereβs a half marathon near me in nov this year itβs a flat circular run and would still give me 5 months to train . Would u sign up for the nov one as the route is supposed to be easier than the April run as a taster. Thanks x
I'm with the others. Five months is plenty of time to train for a HM. And it's definitely much more fun to go for long runs in warmer rather than freezing weather.
I have been on the fence for the next big race and I wanted to make a decision. Iβve opted for the Scotiabank waterfront Half on October 22. It was just before the price hike and I got another 10% off from a code for the runtobeer group which was nice. πΊ So now Iβve switched my Asics training program to a half distance (it was still free btw) and am starting that. Something new to work towards!
Sounds like a plan Decker! I have no plan and feel like I am all over the place, maybe I need focus. Great to hear you are doing so well with your running.
Itβs good to hear from you RFD! We were wondering how you were doing. Hope all is well. Yes I just jumped into another plan before I could talk myself out of it :). Apparently myasics might be moving to a paid model, so I grabbed a quick hm plan for the Oct race before they do
I am going to do some work on my 5k speed starting this week... uber carefully tho as mindful of potential injuries. I am now back to my 21 mile a week target and going to start upping that to get back on track for my yearly goal. I am also carrying on with my pull up training. I am now lifting 26k with the bar ( overhead press). My aim is to start notching it up over June.
Also ( without wanting to hog all of this thread) I have started a fitness journal. Its sketch book style and I am combining it with starting to sketch again. So each day is a new sketch. Feels good to be doing that again.
I had no idea that you did this. Iβve been trying to do the same thing with a sketchbook and watercolours but Iβve been very lazy this last year with it. Really need to get back to it before my eyes go completely
Oh wow thats so good..... I was thinking yesturday I am going to order some watercolours. I have just been using charcoals but I need to buy some hairspray to stop them smudging. You must carry on with it and post how you are getting on.
Yes ju-ju! - I just got new glasses for the computer and reading - Have been using different pairs over the last year. More than anything it has frustrated me for drawing close up, but I will keep on with it. I would love to see your charcoals! Definitely order those watercolours. Momentum is everything isn't it? I keep a collection of the sketches and paintings over the last number of years posted here now: tinyurl.com/y95j4653 just to remind me its not all computer work. The best part was that my 11yr old daughter likes to draw and paint too, so we were doing weekly sessions, but I need to get those going again too before she loses interest
Wow and wow... your work is amazing... mine is more like something a child would do In primary school but itβs been a while. I havenβt sketched for years but itβs lovely to Be doing it again. Thankyou for sharing the link to your amazing work.
oh thanks Ju - that is very kind of you - it spans many years when I did it more actively too. We have to keep practicing and doing it I suppose - just like running :). I might do a painting of my old Sauconys that are retiring soon - they are like old friends now
I finally might be able to get away to Spain to run/walk some sections of The Camino de Santago in the couple of weeks! Hopefully Starting from Logrono then run/walking westwards to the Atlantic. Approx. 500km.
I left off running for 2 weeks after my Helsinki HM but did a HM today (walk 3k / run 2k x four and a bit times 03:10:09 to test the legs and my Spain trip Osprey Rev 5l running pack 2.3kg inc 1l/1kg water. Everything felt ok so I should be good to go. Plan to walk 20-30k then run/walk 20-25k (HM) every other day for 3 weeks. Will need to see how that goes and may need to reduce the mileage if it's too hot though.
I'm also going to sign-up for the Tallin Marathon in Estonia in Sept!
3 weeks to the 10 miles and have signed up for a 5k few days later to stop the usual backward slide after an event. Tried running to Parkrun on Saturday to extend my miles but set out a bit late and had to divert to train station half way!! Not quite the plan.
Running to a plan as per. Itβs going ok. Bought new road shoes as the distances are ramping up from this week. Mind you iβm hoping to get back to the trail r
I don't have a specific plan for the week. That's really strange. But I plan to do a trail run today, then play it by ear. I'm seeing my physio on Thursday. He's been a bit frustrated about how I've had races that interfere with my treatment. So he should be happy now.
BTW - Had some problems with the internet while trying to like and comment on your posts. So if you haven't had any likes from me, consider them liked. And if you have several, consider them a bonus.
Well, I think it was possibly really good! Time will tell. I've got some exercises to do, and the bloke thought there was nothing seriously wrong, and that I should carry on running. I guess I'll have to try my best to run without hobbling - I'll see how it goes
Well, as Iβm away in sunny Italy, Iβve been doing more walking than running π³
I did one run last Thurs which slaughtered me if Iβm honest. Legs gave out after just under 4K....very warm, 4 course meal and a bottle of Chianti the previous night put paid to me, not to mention an 8mile walk the day before.
Iβve since walked another 40+ miles....going to need another hol to get over this one π€£
Looks like Running will have to wait til I get back home π
Happy Running all πββοΈππββοΈπ
I am religiously following my My Asics HM Plan and I've started tapering this week. Hooray! No more long runs until the Big Day but there are some fast 5-milers in there interspersed with 3-milers.
Ooh that is exciting! Tapering is fraught with paranoia of illness and injuries with a serious lack of confidence. Now you know you will sail right through it π
Went out to try my speedy challenge run today and only made it to 2.5k before bailing out. I haven't run since the 10k whenever that was because I've been busy and it seems I've forgotten how! I've a hundred blisters from my hols, I'm stressed because my house is under offer but nothing seems to be happening, work has got busy again (boo) and I had homemade guacamole on toast for breakfast and it was very oniony when I ran. I was not feeling it at all! But any run is better than no run, and it was at least a fast-ish 2.5k so I was on target to beat my time (5.05min/km, pace to beat is 5.08min/km) but I guess half the distance doesn't count I'll try again next week, the weekend is reserved for a longer run...
Feeling a bit tired this week, but the show must go on..
Did my first speed training session on Tuesday evening on a track, was quite exciting for me I think it went well, but my leg muscles definitely felt it afterward even with the rest day on Wed I felt quite uncomfortable on my 10.5km run last night... Must be using different muscles during the sprints??
Looking forward to a rainy trail parkrun tomorrow in Franshoek!
Hope everyone has had a good week? And remember! Its FRIDAY!!!
Hi all! Had my first physio appointment on Friday. He thinks Iβve got a stress fracture in my tibia in addition to the ligament damage in my knee. What a mess! Iβm not allowed to run until I get the results of my mri scan (so still at least another eight weeks away yet) but I am allowed to cycle and use the cross trainer. Fortunately, there was an old cross trainer/exercise bike combo in our garage so Iβve brought it in and turned the conservatory into a home gym (hubby doesnβt know this yet but serves him right for never being here!) Iβve bought a yoga mat for my physio exercises and I now have a training schedule planned. Although Iβm horribly frustrated by the lack of running, it feels good to be taking a step (or pedal?) in the right direction. And I have no excuse not to sort out my bingo wings now as thereβs nowt wrong with my arms!
The other silver lining is that my physiotherapist just so happens to be The Fittest Man on Earth and so lovely that I fear I may be trying to stay on the IC for longer than strictly necessary...π
