Hello everybody and welcome to Monday.... its a new day, a new week and a new opportunity to be determined to reach our goals... lets do this.....go!!
I have spent the weekend running again in the woods which is my favourite happy thing to do.
I did 10 miles on Saturday using my new running vest which I am super happy with. I will do a review of it later
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion
If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
Have a great week, and enjoy your runs

More running, swimming, and windsurfing happened last week. I started my new training plan this morning with an easy 10k - it's a bit hot for running at the moment! I'm re-doing the ultramarathon plan I didn't get to finish earlier in the year, although I will probably shorten the longest runs in it. This will take me up to the Beachy Head Marathon at the end of October, should be fun
I also (whisper it) have been managing to do a pull-up! Only one at a time, but I'm pretty pleased I've been working on them with my lavender pull-up band over the past few weeks, it's nice to see some results finally...
I am tapering for my 10k race at the end of the week. Bit worried about the heat, but looking forward to running along the coast on Sunday morning. Also, very much enjoying the luxury of a tapering week when all the hard work is in the bank!!
For runners it is quite ironic from a great man imprisoned for so long and his iconic struggle.
Running is Freedom, Running is Truth,Running can be life itself Running can be for some everything.🤔💥👏👏
End of June and I did 58 miles for the month. This is a bit short of my 60-75 mile target but reflective of the hotter weather. So I had higher hopes for my july monthly mileage target until tonight! It was supposed to be run group tonight so as it has been 29-30 deg C I didn't run today. Tonight I feel tired, hot with really dry hayfeverish eyes and it is going to be a track or hill repeats session. I was looking forward to a gentle 5-6k jaunt but I cannot face hill repeats or track in this heat so I bailed out. I am hoping for a good run out on Thursday instead in 24 deg C instead!
I checked my June numbers and did a little less than you- 57miles or so. Work has been quite challenging the last number of weeks, but the heat does take its toll too. Had to cut todays run short for the heat. I thought the winter would be the challenging season!
It is funny how I found the winter snow/icy weather rather challenging and limiting on my runs. I thought I would be running fast and furious miles in summer, yet the opposite is true. I am still getting out in the heat, taking it easy and shortening as necessary. In fact I felt guilty at not running last night so instead of an early 0.5 mile walk to work I ran a longer 5k route to work!!
Continuing onward with the marathon training plan, was nice managing a couple of early runs with ju-ju in the week, will have to do some more early runs this week though it's 5,10,5,10,18 this week so the 10's are gonna be difficult to fit in before the commute realistically so may have to do them after 9pm before bed. Also have a 10k race this weekend on the day i'm meant to do my long run, so not sure how to tackle that. I don't fancy doing 18k the day before the 10 by swapping them round and don't know where I can find the time in the week to do it. So I may just accept this as an extra week on the plan.
Week 7 is 9,13,9,13,29 and yes it is scaring the bejeebus out of me lol. This is described as the intermediate plan, the advanced one is probably not worth considering hehe. It is the medibank intermediate 12 week plan storage.googleapis.com/live...
To be fair there is an 18 week version and also a beginners version so my plan was to keep on trucking until I need to mix it up a bit, inject some extra weeks and or drop down some.
I will probably have to do 5:20 tomorrow to fit in my day, but as it's only 5k I will be finished as you go out the door so we can high five as we pass
Cool.... that sounds like a tough plan.... the challenge will be to stay injury free... please listen to your body as injuries are just **** and Can hold you back for weeks.... yep ok I’ll try and go earlier!!
yeah I don't really know wtf i'm doing, just keeping on trucking while it feels ok and making sure I'm brave enough to say hold up this is getting a bit silly if it feels that way. Finding the time/holes in the weather seems to be the bigger hurdle at the moment.
Wow!! When is your marathon? Must be soon with that mileage for the week?
I am doing my first full marathon in Sep - upping the mileage to 30-40km now according my myasicsplan. Good luck!! I am also cramming in runs before going away...
ehm I didn't think I was, I didn't fancy the MyAsics as it's all about different paces which doesn't work for me, I only care about the distance really, not so fussed about time other than i'm happy if I represent my fitness level and am not lazy
I am in the post-first-HM wilderness like Hidden was a while back. Now I really understand what it is like. I am also post-Summer-Speed-Challenge too.
I have also had an unusual week with starting a new job, weekend activities (non-running) and trying to do regular cycling with the family. Running has taken a back seat as it is lacking focus right now.
I am considering the Rother Valley 10k in September (Northiam to Bodiam Castle and catch the train back) but Mr L-L is anti me entering another event.
I think I live near benwill so maybe we should drag each other out for a run (well, exhausting run for me, casual jog for him).
I was planning on doing the Rother Valley 10k too. It's quite a new run, I think. I like that area and it would be cool to finish the race in the grounds of Bodium castle.
Ah sorry to hear you have the hm post race blues. I think there was so much focus and drive on the hm training that I felt totally flat afterwards. I am getting better now and have done another longer 9.5 mile slow run 10 days ago which felt really good. Give yourself some time, any small runs you can fit in will help to eventually find that mojo again.
This week is going to be jam packed with running and thesis writing.
Heading off to the Garden Route on Friday for a HM (Sat) and some quality time with one of my 3 supervisors and my hubby is tagging along for the ride. Before I go I need to cram in two 10km runs and maybe another 5km but considering trying a spinning class to start working on my cycling for the triathlon in Sep... Snow has finally shown its face here in Cape Town on the mountains (even Table Mountain!!!) so hopefully will warm up before the weekend as I am considering trying some open water swimming in the vlei next to my supervisors house and would prefer not to freeze too much...
Would doing something virtual help, even just a 25 miles through the month to get you out the door a few times. I know how easy it is to lose motivation without an aim but if you can get out for a few runs may make the rest of life a bit easier Hope something works out for you.
Everyone looks to be working very hard. I am just following myasics plan. The heat shortened today’s run from 10 to 8 today. I have never sweat like that in my life. I took it a little slower too on purpose. Was around 33 feeling like 38 today at 7:30am. The air feels like an oven today. It is a stat holiday so I’ve been taking it easy otherwise.
Completed a tough 16k yesterday so had today off apart from an hour's stretching at the gym. Going to do the last of my speed challenge runs tomorrow as Roseabi needs to collate results
Training commences shortly for another 10km hill race on the 18th 💪. Also marathon training to start. Not downloaded my plan yet 🙄 😁
We arrived on the Isle of Wight yesterday, and will be here for 5 weeks. My plan is to rest this week, and do the 5k Dash and Splash this weekend. Hopefully I’ll see aliboo70 there!
I was walking at a very slow pace through the airports yesterday. If my foot cooperates, I’ll move on to regular easy runs next week. In the meanwhile I’ll be working on my strength exercises. My right hip flexor is very tight, so I need to get that sorted.
We had an 80s style sports day for our clubs anniversary on Sun!I won the skipping race!! 3rd in Sprint! We also did 3 legged race ,beanbag on head race, egg and spoon (but with lemons!) A blindfolded horse and rider race and a very hard wheelbarrow race!I'm now having DOMS from all the exertion! Was fun tho!! Club for me tonight and trail running tomorrow night xx
Well, I've started a (hopefully) lifelong habit of cycling to work; first commute and back were pretty scary (Central London) but I've worked out a nice little back-road route and I'm warming to it.
Running-wise I did a murder mystery half marathon on Sunday but the team I was in dictated the speed and we went way slower than I intended to, but had fun anyway. Despite mostly walking, I managed to trip over a bit chunk of metal in the ground and go flying, scraping the skin right off my right hand (which now gets aggravated every day by the cycling and is going to take forever to heal!) and a scraped knee which is developing a beast of a bruise. Hey it's a war story, I've not had one in a while.
Got the Jersey Round Island Challenge in a few weeks which I'm super excited about, my leg is 7.9 miles, and I'm in a team with my sister, so that'll be fun.
Had a few weeks off, mentally, so am happy to be back in the game and loving it again. 14 weeks til the Marathon and I'm feeling good.
I completed June with the recovery from the Half marathon (and with a total of 145 miles; 920 miles for 2018 so far) , on Monday I started a 12 weeks plan towards the Belfast city half marathon aiming to train enough to run under 90'. ju-ju- your quote is quite appropriate: It does seem impossible until it's done!
For now I only see the first part of the quote (impossible), I hope to get the "it's done!" part at the end of the summer. For now I am enjoying the recovery easy days (like today - 6 easy miles) and try to complete the hard stuff (6 miles in 43:30 yesterday with a couple of hills, I normally run it in 48/49'). Next week I will introduce intervals
happy running/swimming/cycling/ surfing and "so on-ing" everybody
.. and I am off to Italy from the 15th of July to the 19th of August (almost serious hot weather training!!! (not all holiday of course, but I'll get to run in Tuscany and Sardinia
Had an enjoyable parkrun at the weekend, but my planned long run for Sunday evening did not happen due to the heat - I decided it was better to stop and try later in the week early morning when it is fresher... so this morning as I woke at 5, I decided to just get out there - aiming for 16km as per my hm plan. It was much better temperature wise, but after 6.5km my legs were feeling tired but I carried on hoping it would pass - maybe it was the body pump lastnight taking it’s toll? I carried on and turned round to head home at 9km, a bit more than planned - so by the time I got back I had covered 18km. It was still cool, and I felt good, so decided to take advantage of this and do the hm distance. 21.14km completed in 2:09. 😀 very pleased with that, and my longest run to date. I’ll now take a couple of days rest I think..
I accidentally just entered the Paisley 10K, simply because a colleague mentioned he was doing it. I never thought I'd be that person (You're doing a race? I WANT TO DO A RACE). I'm quite looking forward to it now though, it's smaller than the ones I have entered so far, no staggered start or anything like that, everyone just goes off together in a many-footed blob. I also quite fancied doing a relatively flat course for once! A fastish 10k is not terribly relevant to half marathon training, but I'm making it all up as I go along anyway so no matter. Now to work out how to avoid anyone from work in the starting zone, so I don't look like some sort of creepy run stalker 🤔
Cycling and swimming ...until I get the all clear to run. My local pool, when I got in touch, are going to try and arrange a private session for me for Aqua jogging.... £12 a time Seems like a bargain if it keeps me sane
Going to give it a try when I head back from here on the sunny and very hot.. 33 degrees yesterday...N Wales coast
Happy running and whatever else people... stay cool, stay safe x
I'm doing a 10k race at weekend and it is forecast to be boiling hot ☀️ 😱☀️☀️!!! I've already done 2 hot longer races this year but this is going to be hotter still if the forecast is correct. I am loving early morning summer training though. I think summer is my favourite running season. I'm on 1026 miles this year so far which I think is a bit much so I'm going to try to stick to a hm training plan for my hm's in September and October.
My running has taken a backseat to rowing at the moment. Got 60km race today then will get back to my marathon training. (60km 14 -man boat - 100 boats - all part of the Finnish summer silly-season).
Ouch! That was a near-death experience! We stopped for a 90 sec adjustment/pee break at 30km and if the shore had been a bit closer I might have swum for it! Hands are shredded with blisters today and I now know I have lots of sore muscles I never knew I had. The running legs helped a lot but I can honestly say (as a non-rower) that that was much tougher than my first HM race. Our boat was a "fun" boat (most other competitors were from rowing clubs) so to come 86th overall (113 boats) was ok. 05:41:00 official time for 60km (winners 04:11:00, slowest 06:50:00). Not the leisurely row on Lake Saimaa that I imagined but I might sign-up for next year who knows? Back to my running training plan in a few days time (Tallin Marathon, Estonia 9 Sept).
