My son and my baby sister joined me for a mini adventure today. We started off in Hayle and took the coastal path to the beach. It was incredibly windy and there was foam from the frothing and flying everywhere which my sister informs me is sewage 🤢. We had to climb over the rocks at one point as the sea wasn’t quite far out enough and I ended up knee high in a rock pool!!
Our halfway point was the seal colony at Godrevy. There were loads of seals flopped around the beach, it’s such a special place to visit.
We then went to the cafe at Godrevy where I had a green tea and a brownie. I really don’t like taking my backpack on long runs as I prefer the freedom so this made all the difference. That really boosted me for the second half of the run and I will definitely do that again. We were running with the wind behind us on the beach on the way back too which made a difference.
Does anyone else stagger their runs like this?
It felt like a proper panthering adventure and it was so good to cover 10 miles as I haven’t run that far for ages...
I’d better do my squats now though..... not done them yet and I missed a day this week....

Well done Ju and Co! It must be lovely to run with family! In such a gorgeously wild location too. All the senses must have been truly working in overdrive today. It's good to have refreshments along the way. I did that in the summer on the Isle of Wight. Ah summer. Remember that! Seeing seals ! How fabulous! Lucky you. The wind is a bit of a nuisance normally but in your setting it can be expected but I bet it made it all the more exhilarating.
Hope you're ok after your squats!
I have a feeling I might be running by the sea next Sunday morning.
Thankyou missW it was indeed lovely to be with others and in daylight too!!! It was extremely windy, against us going out and behind us on the way back which made a huge difference!! I am preservering with squats, my form is still wrong but I will improve! How exciting where will you be running??
Looks great. I'm the proud owner of a new Osprey Rev 6 running backpack but have not had the opportunity to put it to full use yet due to the crap weather here in Finland so far this winter (damp and wet instead of arctic and crisp). A mini safari is something I have in mind too!
Yay mini safari sounds very exciting and good to try out the new backpack too. One tip- I always have plasters, a whistle and a foil blanket in there for emergencies and in case I have a fall to keep warm.
you should go, and plan a little adventure too....
Sounds like a great family adventure. I am envious. My children run but are not old enough to go too far. Love the cake and tea stop half way, something that should be featured in every run lol.
It was lovely, I am lucky that my sister is less than half my age, and she and my son ( 16) get on really well. My son still ribs me about 'making' him run half marathons when he was 12.... He loved it but on reflection I probably should have toned it down....
Wow he was doing well at 12. Mind you if he didn't want to run he wouldn't have! Maybe in some years to come I will get to run distances with my kids 😁
To be fair he loved it ( mostly) and we always did parkrun together. Nowadays We are both up v early, me running and him on the static bike in the kitchen. He has become like a Greek god with a 6 pack etc. I would like to think that I helped with this!!!!!! I think your children will be inspired by your achievements, and that will spur them to come along etc...
No, it was fine. We took it slowly ( as always) and I have a walk break at every mile anyway. No stitch at all, but then when doing long runs we do eat? I did keep jiggling my legs in the chair and we didnt hang about for chitty chat.
Sounds like a lovely run! I don't generally stop and have a snack, but maybe I should. I do when I go skiing, though. That's the whole point of skiing for me - to ski to a nice cafe in the forest and have a waffle.
It was my sisters idea as she regularly does that run with a stop. I like doing this as it breaks up the journey. When I did the Exmoor marathon I adopted this from an amazing lady I ran with who has done ultras and about 60 odd marathons. We had loads of breaks and sat on a bench for quite some time looking at the sea and chatting with my family who found us on the route. It made it more enjoyable rather than gritting teeth and not allowing any stopping etc. Your ski trips sound divine. Can I come?!!
Off to Morecambe bay 😁. I have a trail run mapped out in my head. My husband asked “when I thought I was going to get the opportunity to run” ☹️🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 when you’re in the pub dear says I 😁 I thought post run we could meet up in the hotel de posh for tea and wads “ In your running gear!” he snapped 😁. Of course, why not I can take my shoes off, I’m not a complete scruff. We are staying in the slightly less salubrious hotel paradiso down the road 🙄😁 but i think tea and cakes are unlikely to be on offer there 😀
Tea and wads......????????? my mind is in overdrive.
What a lovely place for a run. I'm heading to St Ives in September and have already promised myself a run to Godrevy from Hayle. Can't wait to get there - its only 7 months away after all!!
Yes you must. You can take the T2 bus from St Ives, get off at the stop after Asdas in Hayle and then run towards Philps pasty shop, turn left at the quay and run along it, you then get to the coastal footpath. Follow that for about a mile and you get to a steep sandbank to the beach. Run down that ( its really fun) then run along the beach for 2 miles ( check the tides) and you eventually get to pebbles, turn left to the car park and take the coastal path up towards the lighthouse. You then get to the seals. Thats 5.5 miles in. You can then come down, go to the Godrevy cafe, eat cake and drink tea. Then run back..... its such a fab run.... sorry if thats TMI, I get quite excited about it!!!
