Speed training ... first outing ... what a shocker!

Well, hubs dragged me out for a bit of speed training this morning ... never done it before, never really wanted to but seeing as I'm on a training programme he insisted I give it a go ... and oh my gawd!!! I don't think I'll ever like it (but then I said that about sprouts as a kid and look at me now, human composter in action when they're in season!) ... it certainly made for a more interesting 5k than would have been on the cards but I felt like an old lady with the intensity bursts that seemed I was running through treacle no matter how hard I tried to speed it up and with him doing the serious vocal coaching thing beside me, at one point, if I could have caught him, I think I might have punched him! Love him to bits really and do appreciate the fact that he's coming along and trying to mix things up a bit for me when he really doesn't need to but wow ... what an eye opener ... will I do it again, well I have to now I've started and the Garmin told me I'd achieved what was expected when I investigated the download (once home and could breathe again!) but it was certainly an experience!!! ;-)

Well I was planning on working on my speed...but not so sure now!😉 Seriously, well done - I am sure it will all pay off (once you can walk again!)🙂

It was ok really ... I suppose! Got to look at the benefits and I needed to do a bit more than just go out and run at the same pace each time I go out so will be interested to see if it makes a difference on the longer runs to come ... go on, I'll do it again if you give it a go! ;-)

This is exactly what I am trying to do - have been reading about the 80/20 method (thank you Tomas) and really think I need to break away from my one pace running all the time. I will report back on my results!🏃🏽‍♀️🙂

Sounds excellent, I bet it will improve your speed (even if it is hard work), and it sounds like you've got a great and very motivated coach in your husband. Looking forward to hear how you're getting on with this.

wow that sounds hard... what interval plan was he following? Well done you. Dont forget that intervals REALLLLY take it out of you so ensure you rest those legs :)

Think he made it up to torture me!!! We did a 1k warm up run then 8 short bursts of lamppost to tree etc with a really slow couple of minutes after each one then back up to normal pace for another minute or so ... sadist!!! ;-)

My husband used to push me during my training which did pay off but I could have also punched him! He is on the ic at the moment so I can relax lol. Well done for sticking with it.
