I did a 24k and 7k ish run while I was there as I am still in training for a half and full marathon. Speaking of which, I have another 24k run due tomorrow but I might do it today instead
I tried to enter a local, short fell race last night but couldn't find the how-to-enter button. I think someone forgot the link 🙄
I did it last year. Short but tiring 😩 It will be a week before my 60th birthday 🙂
I decided to take things a little easier last week, following Helsinki, so I only ran three times.
I was really annoyed with my app yesterday. It said that I was supposed to run eight 5-minute intervals, which I thought was strange, considering the distance planned and time allotted. So I planned carefully, making sure that I'd turn back at the halfway point, only for the app to declare that I was done with my intervals after number four. By the time my cooldown was over, I was pretty far from home and not in the mood to tackle the long hill up from the fjord, so I walked.
In other news, they've changed the route of the Oslo marathon/half-marathon, and made it much hillier, so I've had to change my long run strategy to an out and back route, which forces me to face a long hill at about the same stage as the HM.
My biggest choice this week is what race to do on Bank holiday Monday do i go the SeveonOaks 7 (7miles) set in the lovely knole park national trust estate, the Dartford 10k (dartford is not the nicest of places) or the Canterberry half (set in the lovely Kent countryside, i dont think it goes near Canterbury center)
Canterbury sounds a good one . Some lovely countryside thereabouts. I visited there once and stayed in a great big freezing cold house.i slept in my clothes 😁 The place faced a big expanse of water. Idyllic location 😃🏃✔️
I had a fabulous session on Saturday, my first triathlon! All by myself
Plan said 'All three, 90 mins', which I took to mean a swim, bike, and run within 90 minutes. Husband was off to his piano group, so I had the afternoon to myself. Headed to the pool on the bike (the lifeguards had red flags on the beach, so no sea swimming today!) - cor it wasn't half windy, was almost blown sideways! And threatening rain. Had a lovely 20 minute swim - did 32 lengths (800m), pleased with that. Then off outside to find pouring rain! A fun ride out, through rain and puddles, feeling sorry for the tourists huddling under any and all available shelter, and also for the cyclists going the other way against the rain AND wind. I was already soaked from the pool before I got on the bike, but it felt quite refreshing to me, although my hands and feet got pretty cold. Luckily it stopped raining just before the turnaround, but it was still a pretty good workout coming back against the wind. A 45 minute ride (overran the planned 40) but I travelled just over 12K. Oh well Then off the bike for a 30 minute run, in the newly-appeared sunshine. I felt good, although a little odd, my wet cycling shorts felt so light I kept checking to make sure I was actually wearing them! I managed 5K in the 29-ish minutes (cut 30 minutes short due to longer than expected bike ride), very pleased with that!
So the training is going well!
In other news, the day before that I stood for a sunny morning in Brighton with a collecting tin, working on my Alzheimer's Society charity target for London2Brighton next year. I haven't been able to count the money yet because bureaucracy (rrrragh, another story!), but I'm pretty sure I raised more than £50, and it was lovely, if humbling, to meet the people who donated and chatted, or just smiled and said hello!
Long run today, got play attacked by a very large dog, it saw me and ran full tilt at me, I dodged, then came back at me and gently put mouth around my thigh and arm (play bite) so I slowed down to show I wasn't playing chase me. I came across it again and it again bolted straight at me, first time I've shoulder barged a dog, but it was that big, and I'm not short, and it was in the air by that point, readjusted its trajectory just a little.
So I made a new friend I realy didnt mind, it was very soft. I think the dog was a great dane but not fully grown. Fortunately I could avoid the head on collisions, hopefully he calms down a bit for other people.
My foot feels fine, had ball of foot pain over the weekend, thought I'd broken some metatarsal with my silly increase in mileage but fortunately just inflammation. back to running but going to try and maintain 35-40k per week.
Found a new route with my running club on monday, also joined a 10miler in sale in December. Half Marathon training going OK. I have now got 2 plans!!! Isnt that great? And Im not quite following either of them! Brilliant. I'll be ready for the half marathon
