I went for a lovely run in the nearby Howardian Hills on Saturday. As I'm not used to hills, it started to feel like hard work after the first 10 km, and towards the end I was groaning and walking up even fairly gentle inclines.
Today I've got a sore gluteus maximus.
Having checked the stats on GC I'm not really surprised. The gentle Saturday run had 369 m ascend. While I know that's not a huge amount, it is 50% more than my combined ascend for all of October's 200+ km. So maybe it's not really surprising that it's a bit of a pain in the arse.
In other news, I have joined the local running club and am planning on going along to their (our) track session tomorrow evening. The weather forecast for tomorrow evening says cold and heavy rain, so I might convince myself that it can wait until next week
I've been checking out the Howardian Hills (of which I had not heard) on Google Images - what a splendid place for a run, how lucky you are!!! Sorry to hear about the ouchy bum though... all part of life's hilly tapestry I suppose
I hope the running club turns out well whenever you go!
I had a lot of fun with my first go at the Windsurfing Circuits strength plan last week, felt REALLY sore for DAYS afterwards I made a few errors, such as doing 10 crunches on the Swiss ball instead of 30, ha thought that was a bit easy Also, I couldn't manage all of some of the workouts, such as the pull-ups, and the 3-point planks (arrrgh!!), but I'm hoping things will improve. The jump-rope bits were great!
I'm doing just a couple of 8k runs per week at the moment, but the hamstring seems to be getting better, and I was actually able to go a bit faster on my Friday run, hooray!
And right now I'm going for a swim. There, I've said it on here, so I'll have to do it! Bye!!
As for the soreness, I sincerely hope it will pass once you get a few weeks of the strength plan behind you. Then, suddenly, everything will be wonderful and the sun will always shine.
Last week turned out quite different than planned. I came down with a fairly nasty cough a week ago, so considering the cold weather, limited my running to parkrun on Saturday. It went decently enough, but I definitely wasn't in any shape to push myself. The cough is my only symptom, so this is really annoying. At least my knees feel much happier now.
I did 6K on my treadmill this morning. When can I get out there again? Do I have to wait until my cough is all gone?
Maybe give it a try, but just plan a very short run - if you feel ok you can carry on for longer. It's possible that the run outside might make the cough worse, so I think caution would be good. Whatever you do, I hope it goes well!
Oh dear, I hope that cough doesn't hang about and make your life miserable. At least it gave your knees a bit of a break, so that's a silver lining.
As for going out there... you can go out there today if you want. But if your body is fighting an infection while also recovering from exercise, it will do a suboptimal job of both things.
Thanks, both of you. My cough definitely isn't going away yet, so I think I'm going to stick to the treadmill for now. I guess that means short runs for me this week. Possibly parkrun on Saturday.
I forgot to mention that both my brother-in-law and sister-in-law ran the New York Marathon on Sunday. They live in Bergen, so I smiled when he commented that he found it pretty flat, except for at the end. I was really impressed by my sister-in-law. I know that her weekly mileage has been well below mine, and she finished in 4:06! I guess that's what a life of being generally fit does for you. I'm very pleased for them, in any event!
I found when I had a cough that I didn’t cough when I ran. I’d get out there 😃
Morning all 😃👋. Wheel came off my plans last week when I pulled up with hip pain. Like agonising 😵. Had 7 days rest and went out last night for a gentle trot round. I did a hill mind you, then a downhill, but chickenened out of running back up it, and instead heading for town. Felt ok afterwards
Hills,Tomas, are character-forming. They will make you or break you 😁🏃♂️
I think you’ve done well to avoid em all this time 😃. Run club! Ooer 😳
Sounds like you’ve got it all going on there Roseabi. I do envy all your activities. It’s going to make you really fit and strong 💪🏃♀️✔️🙂
My husband keeps asking me about my hip. He had the jitters about whether I could do a marathon. Now he’s whittling about my hip. Which is why I wanted to go on my own 😁🙄😎. If I die on my arse I will now have an audience 😤. Some people are doing the double! Marathons on two days eek
