I've been mumbling and grumbling and swearing and eating too much. Now back on the only true path though *lol*
As for the 15 miles, I always think of the distance in miles before going out (ah, it's only 15, that's not a lot, hardly double-digits) and in km when I come back (wow, TWENTY FOUR, that's way more than twenty, that's awesome). The mindgames we sometimes play!
I've had a motivational wobble for the last couple of weeks with some half-hearted runs and a full week of no runs. But yesterday was the York 10k where I managed to improve my PB by 3 minutes - that has helped the motivation to no end, and I look forward to putting heart and soul into the training again
Thank you C3PO , roseabi and benwill . Yes, 3 minutes is a lot. From 56:10 to 52:46, it has done wonders for my motivation. I am eager to get out and do my intervals tomorrow, even looking forward to the sore legs afterwards lol.
Triathlon training is going well. Had my first bike-run and swim-bike "brick" sessions at the beginning and end of last week. They were fine except that during the second bike ride it was SO WINDY it felt as though I was whizzing down a hill one way and then struggling up one coming back. But actually that was fine too
This week I'm upping the swimming ante with pool drills and daily short sea swims. Multiple breakfasts will be needed no doubt!
Last week went really well despite all my travelling. I just shuffled my schedule around. I did a good 16K run on Friday, which was a great boost to my confidence.
I also tried my first gel. I took half at 6K, the second half at 12K, then 4 jelly babies afterwards. Beforehand I was wondering whether to take a full gel each time, but don't think I could have handled it. Disgusting stuff. At least I had no negative reaction to it. I didn't feel a major boost, but felt normal throughout instead of exhausted at the end, so that's a result. Will probably repeat this strategy during Saturday's race.
Sounds very similar to my experience of gels, the first time I tried one I scoffed it all down in one go and almost threw up! A thoroughly unpleasant texture to swallow I thought. And then I kept getting a nasty taste as I was going along, which I had to bury with jelly babies I've got used to gels by having one slowly over the space of about 10 minutes or so, but I don't think I'd want more than two of them during a run of any length, although with what I'm planning for next year who knows!!??
Yes, I always chase it down with some water, in fact that is in the instructions for the gels I use: Gu, which are extra thick so don't really spill, Tomas I also have some Science in Sport ones which don't require water - they are very runny and messy. They also are, to my tastebuds anyway, disgusting!
Luckily I had brought a little plastic bag for my jelly babies, so it did the trick. And I always carry water, so it was easy to rinse my fingers. It's all early days, though.
How were the gels? My stomach seems to be very sensitive when I am running so I was thinking more along the lines of the jelly sweets and jelly babies?
I've seen some great Instagrams recently of parkruns in the pouring rain I've yet to experience such a thing, although apparently we are getting thunderstorms tomorrow...
just learnt that it's about 11weeks to Beachy head marathon, I actually think I should start doing some training for it. Right gonna do 21km at the weekend then gonna push on from there, did someone mention there were a couple of hills I should train for as well?
