I would appreciate your inspiration on what I should do next as I am in a quandry. I'm considering the Eden project marathon but can't help feeling I may be ready to train for my first ultra but I'm not sure and that's a bit scary.
Any suggestions and also of any particular race suggestions that might tickle my fancy??
Thankyou!

that is a bit of a pickle, how about a marathon this year (beachy head marathon is great very hilly much like an ultra would be) and you can then keep that going for an ultra in 2017 around Feb/March.
That's a really good idea, I will look that one up. Pub sounds lovely but sadly running is the only thing that is keeping my life going right now, and without it I would have a breakdown I think.
Sorry to hear that You do sound as though you really want to do an ultramarathon! The Beachy Head has a 9 hour cut off, so if taken leisurely would be good practice for an ultra I reckon...
Or you could do a trail marathon to get you in the groove for the longer distances. There are plenty of those in the offing about the country. I just looked on Goodrunguide (Search for Races tab)
Lets be knowing what (if anything) you decide on. It's exciting!!!!
Not specifically, have you any suggestions? I would ideally love to do one that's like a big journey, with varied terrain and coastal. Including an overnight sleep in between rather than an all out 24 hour type of thing, otherwise it wouldn't be enjoyable!!!
Wouldn't it? I have no idea. It's unchartered water to me. If there is no chance of a sleepover does that rule it out then? Don't be laying down too many provisos or you could talk yourself out of it.
Last year before my HM I was looking for what to do next and was thinking about the North Yorkshire Moors Lyke Wake walk as I had done it when's was 11 and walked it. It is 40 miles and at age 11 I did it in 17.5 hours. I would like to do it in 10 years time at 61 and beat my time. My long distance plan. While I was looking into it I came across this website and liked the fact they do 10km up to ultra+ so you could have a test run for training one year as a tester and build up for the next one and also spend time talking to ultra runners getting some insights from people who do it. I think I'm out my league with these sort of runs but I'm sure you would fit right in. Here is the link
I don't have any suggestions of events but feel sure if you can commit the time needed you are ready to head for an ultra marathon. I just looked at the Eden Project - as it is multi terrain and described as challenging, can you use it as a starting point for your training. Hope you are okay.
I have done the Eden half a few times and was booked to do the marathon before injury 2 years ago so I've always wanted to. I think I will do this first as a tester, good plan. It's October this year but I know I'm ok to do as my weekly mileage is high so I'd just have to do some longer runs. However the slowest person was 6 hours last year so I would have to be OK to do it in that time which I'm pretty sure I could.
I have read this thread with interest - in my head I would run those ultras with ease - but I know that in reality I never could! Part of it is the training commitment - I did find that training for the marathon took over my life!
I think the suggestion to start with a trail marathon is a good one - and maybe hang around at a few ultras and chat with participants.
