Hi, I had an eyelea injection on Monday. On monday and Tuesday it felt fine and I started working on my laptop etc as normal but then on Tuesday night, my eyes started to feel very painful and gritty. My mum said it looked very bulgy too
I went to the hospital on Wednesday and the doctor said it looked like regurgitation of fluid and the drug where the injection had been pulled out. He said my eye looked inflamed and my cornea was dry, the was an air bubble each time I blinked. He gave me ointment but wanted to wait before giving steroids as my cornea was dry. Went back on Friday (yesterday) and he said it looked much better, my eye still looks slightly bulgy with a small lump on it but much better. my cornea is 90% better too in terms of the dryness.
He's given me the dexamethasone steroid drops though and I am supposed to use them twice a day for 4 days and then once a day for 4 days.
I asked him if I could wear my contact lenses and at first he said when it feels better but then he said leave it about 2 weeks. To be honest, it seemed like he was a bit uncertain of what to say.
The thing is I really want to wear my contact lenses for an important event on Monday evening but of course, I don't want to put my eyes at risk. I was wondering if I could just skip my steroid drops on Monday or if I use them in the morning, wait hours and then put my lenses in in the evening and then do another drop after I take them out.
I have disposable lenses I can throw away after one use so if they tell you to avoid wearing lenses because the steroids can ruin the lenses, that's not an issue as I will just throw my lenses away anyway.
My only concern is if there's any risk to my eyes wearing contact lenses after having regurgitation of fluid and if I am taking a course of dexamethasone eye drops.
If anyone has any advice, that would be amazing and much appreciated - I'm feeling very stuck!
How long have you waited before wearing contact lenses?
Thanks
Amy
