Contact lenses and injections

I have myopic cnv in my right eye and had my first injection 12 days ago. I normally wear contact lenses but haven’t worn them since before my injection. Does anyone else have injections and regularly wear contact lenses? I know I’m probably fine to wear them again now but still worried about infections etc The doctor said I should not wear them for at least a week but still apprehensive.

Thanks in advance!

Hello yes I m in the same position. I always wear contact lenses- my glasses are out of date as I never wear them! I can see so much better with contacts. My Dr advised me to leave them out for 2-3 days after an injection until my eyes felt normal again. Last time this took 4 days for them to feel normal this time was less. The nurses to leave them for 4 days to a week. Your dr said a week so you are well over that now. My eyes started feeling more normal this time quicker so I put mine in 48 hours afterwards but wore my dailies rather than monthlies so I could throw them. They also gave me anti biotic drops to use for 4 days after so I take them out for a few hours to put the doses in. Hope this helps!

Hi, that’s great thank you. I see so much better in contacts too so I’ll try them for a bit tomorrow. I have gas permeable lenses. Good idea with dailies - I may need to get some!

Sorry don't know what happened there. I wear daily disposables and usually wait 5-7 days after an injection to be on the safe side. I too can see much more clearly out of my lenses and interested to hear others can too. I was really worried about this, but I've now had 5 injections and it's been fine.

Yes I used to wear gas permeables since probably early 40s then just tried the monthlies and loved them. It’s also good to get a few packs of daily disposables for when I go on holiday and go swimming/snorkelling/surfing. Hope your first injection was ok?

Thank you both so much for replying. I’ve worn my lenses today and felt a bit more normal even though the distortion is still present in my right eye. I really hope it goes soon - maybe after a few more injections. Fingers crossed. First injection went well thanks you. No soreness etc. I think I’ll have a chat with my opticians about dailies and/or monthlies. I have had dailes before and I agree they are so useful on holidays.

Leave them out for 2-3 days after injection until your eyes feel normal again.

When I first had injections I wore contact lenses. I was given eye drops (some clinics don’t do this) to use for the next 4 days, during which time no contact lenses , swimming or eye makeup as the puncture might still be open with obvious risk of infection
