Contact lenses

Hi, I am just about to go for my second Avastin injection this week, I don’t see much improvment since the first, the sight is still quite distorted so don’t feel safe to drive, the glare is a little better but mainly as I have bought the over glasses.

I wear varifocals glasses and wondered of wearing single vision contact lenses would make the sight better, I tried it yesterday and felt it was a little better and I could possibly drive.

I have been told to wait until I get new glasses but I am considering getting some single vision. Has anyone else tried this at an early stage.

Hi, it's not unusual for no improvement after only 1 inj. Remember the loading dose is 3 for a reason. X The same logic suggests you wait until 3 are done before getting new specs unless you can easily afford more in another couple of months?

I did keep putting off getting them for a year because Dr said so as I was still having treatment but I should have gotten them sooner than that - it's a toss up and comes down to money in the end as there's simply no way other than time to tell when your sight is ' settled'.

One Dr told me I may end up not having varifocals but that might just be my eyes. Right now they are good so I'm sticking with them.

I can recommend reactolite ( asda better than a friends more expensive pair ).

Thanks Eyesright, I think I will try and find a reasonable pair of specs that are not varifocals and are reactolight. Hope you are doing well.

Best regards Ann

As it's unlikely that your prescription will change that much even after 3 injections you'd probably be best to get a very cheap pair with you current prescription to enable you to drive; there are some companies online doing very cheap spectacles; some under £25.

Thanks Mike, I will take your advice but I will need thin lenses as my prescription is quite high. Hope you are doing well

I kept being told not to get new glasses while having treatment, which was silly as with AMD treatment goes on for years n years. I got new glasses and am happy with them. I had a great improvement after the first 3 Lucentis jabs three years ago. Have changed providers and due to a hitch went for 8 months between eyelea injections and my sight after last weeks jab is awful

Still, like a grey nett curtain over the whole eye. Am hoping it soon improves as I have to drive as live out of town. It's all up n down with AMD!!

Hope you soon see an improvement.

Best wishes.

Hi RP1944,

Thanks for your advice, sorry to hear you have had such a problem with your last injection hopefully it will clear soon.

It seems every day things change and each injection will be different.

I will buy some new glasses and will try the reactalight and hope I can drive soon.

At the moment cars look a very funny shape and feel as if I can’t process the distance of cars in front .

Hope things improve soon for you

Ann

You need to ensure that you have the DVLA requirement of 6/12 vision in at least one eye in order to drive. Go the DVLA website to read the page on Vision.
