Eylea - increased dose to 8 mg.

Hello everyone - I was diagnosed 7 - 8 years ago with wet macular degeneration. This has been controlled very well over the years with Eylea injections approximately 12 weekly - sometimes longer as it is difficult to get appointments.

I have had 30+ injections in each eye during that time. However, in the last six months I have noted deterioration of close vision to the point I am having a lot of difficulty with print. Distance vision is still OK. At my appointment last week after scans and photographs I was told this deterioration was due to old age "wear and tear" (I am 82). It was suggested that I should be tried with a stronger injection of Eylea at 8 mg.

I am due to get this increased injection on Friday in both eyes and I was wondering if anyone here has had this increase and how it has affected them. Thank you.

hi jelbea. My story similar to yours re age, length of treatment and deterioration of close vision. Was switched to eylea plus at last injection Improvement in distance vision and night driving vision was noticeable. Close vision not much. Tend to get itchy lumps around my trunk area after eylea and they were a bit bigger but that was the only difference. r it. I was also getting 10 weeks but am told I can now hope for 12 to 16. Every little helps!!!! Go for it.

Thank you for reply. I am not really expecting any improvement in vision - just having injections further apart. I have had so many injections now and the Eye Clinic felt fewer injections might help. I have other medical problems including a rare type of blood cancer for which I take oral chemotherapy every day and also blood thinners so I am always a bit apprehensive about any change in medication. However, I shall go ahead tomorrow and see what happens - not looking forward to it😀👍👍, Wishing you all the best as I see you also suffer with the iodine, etc.

Hi Jelbea, I'm 74 and have wet macular in both eyes and have been having injections since 2017, first in left eye, and then, approx 2yrs ago, in both. As I have frequent leaks they have been unable to reduce the frequency of my injections, which are back to 4wks (from 6wks) at moment. Last week I had my first injections of Eylea (8mg) in the hope it will extend the time between injections. Only reaction I had was irritation after numbing drops wore off. I was fine by next day. My vision in left eye is poor so hopefully it will stabilise my right eye, which is OK at moment. Good luck

Thank you for replying. I have been having so many injections the Clinic thought it might help to try to lengthen the time between. I am not expecting any improvement in close vision as Clinic said this was due to "aging wear and tear" but if we can stabilize the better (left) eye it would be good. I go tomorrow morning so will see what happens. I always suffer 12 - 24 hours of irritation every time - probably due to iodine. All the best with your treatment and I hope you find it works well for you👍👍👍

Dear Jelbea, I have been using the 8 mg dose of Eylea HD for about a year. It has in fact improved my vision I believe. I'm currently at 8 to 10 weeks between injections but I have been as high as 12 and hope to be at 16 weeks at some point. I do believe that the Eylea HD injection has had a positive effect in the treatment of my macular degeneration in my right eye, as it has dried out the recent buildup of fluid in the macula! Hi Shannon - So glad to hear that you are having a positive reaction to 8mg Eylea and improvement in your vision. I am hoping to stabilize my vision but was told not to expect the close-up vision to improve as Clinic thinks this is caused by age "wear and tear" rather than the macular degeneration. I go to-morrow for my first 8 mg injections in both eyes. Thankyou for your reply - it is always good to hear from someone who is already having this treatment. The 2 mg dose has kept my sight really good up until three months ago and my distance vision is still good. Good wishes for your further treatment.
