I have had injections for macular oedema for 5 years

Is that the same as wet AMD?

No, not at all. It is a completely different condition but needs similar treatment plus some other treatment which includes laser treatment and my latest is a steroid implant injected into the eye

At variable intervals since 2007 - think that's 16 years so far

how is your vision compared to 16 years ago? That’s a long time.

I have DMO and have been having anti vegf every month (even during COVID) for 13 years we once tried to extend the time and that was a disaster . I am registered sight impaired and also living with cataracts both PSC and nuclear as well as glaucoma.

The eye sight has changed. The initial bleed was spectacular, and took 3 months to fully resolve, but I got back to driving etc. Since they my vision has been affected by cataracts (treated) and by increasing dry MD. I’ve ver little scarring but I had to give up driving as the dry and the cataracts progressed - this is all my L eye, I’ve had no central vision in the R since 1989.

I am registered partially sighted but I’m typing this on an ordinary iPad, and last week I travelled alone to, from, and within Ireland (starting in London)

I have been having injections for about nine years now, which have kept the WET eye quite stable. Sight not quite as good as it was but not bad.

I also have DMO and have been having injections for around 6 years with a couple of difficult gaps during the lockdown downs. Have also had Ozurdex Steroid implant in one eye and Cataract removal in the same eye. My eyesight is not as good as it was in either eye but my better eye still manages to reach the requirement for driving but treatment of the other eye in which I had the Ozurdex implant and Cataract removal has been abandoned.

I've been having injections since 2016 . Had a break from 2018 til 2022 as eye was stable after 12 injections and 6 laser treatment. Started up again in Oct 22 and had my 23rd injection last monday.I have macular odema caused by a retinal vein occlusion in 2016. My vision seems much the same now. The injection has caused scar tissue on my retina which I'm told is a common side effect. I may have an operation on this in the future although the surgeon has told me this probably won't help my vision so I'm not sure if I want it done anytime soon.

Thank you for your reply. It’s interesting that you also have scarring from the injection. I do as well. They continue to inject that eye do they?

I am so very lucky that since 2011 I’ve had 119 injections (between both eyes) because of wet macular degeneration and I can still see to drive during the day.

Coming up 6 years for wet AMD. Injections in both eyes although right eye dried up for a while and had a break of 7 months. Sight pretty good and hope to keep it that way. One eye being injected every 9 weeks and other has gone up to 13 weeks. New research is working on extending the interval with stronger doses. We’ll see but just thankful for treatment as my older brother developed AMD before it was available and was registered blind and went through 3 guide dogs! My other brother and sister have injections too!

I am now 80 years old. I have had 32 injections, starting in March of 2020. .All, except for 6, were Eylea…..the most recent 6 were Vabysmo, started in August of 23.

I think my sight has diminished after the Vabysmo. Both distance and close up vision is not as good as it was last year at this time.

13 years but only in my right eye. It doesn’t see too much detail any more and I now go every other month. It’s not caused by age but because of high myopia.

A little late to reply. Iam insulin dependant diabetic for 40 years. I had extensive laser treatment since pre 2000, in 2005 I had two cataracts removed and had many eye injections from 2008. During this time I also received three steroid implants. I don't 'count' my treatments but just say yes to whatever treatment I'm offered. 18 months ago, I had a severe bleed in my right eye and had no vision whatsoever in that eye. I was left, with read streaky lines and red dots. I had a course of injections in preparation for a vitrectomy. I couldn't believe the results of the operation My sight was completely restored in that eye from that very minute. It felt like a miracle and It's still fine. I feel extremely lucky and thankful for all the treatment offered which has afforded me the opportunity to still have sight after over 25 years from the initial treatment. How lucky we are

Around six years for wet Amd In one eye, heading now for just monitoring as Eyelea has been very succsssful. Left eye has dry AMD and showing signs of glaucoma, so will have to be tested for that to confirm.
