Hi eyeseeu. I'm really sorry to hear about your heart attack and hope that you're recovering well. I don't know about the injections but some on here may and I'm sure they will reply when they see your post. I'm sure your GP is right but I think you should also ring your consultant and ask his/her advice. Good luck.
oh my word I really hope you are recovering well. I think it best to let your eye consultant know and see what they say about having an injection. Best wishes to you
Are you on blood thinners like wayfarin, Coumadin, and more?? That may be the concern, but I see articles saying it's OK to keep getting the eye injection while on them. I suggest asking the eye doctor for guidance. THEY know the contraindications of medications and also should know about related issues after a heart attack. Bring a list of ALL your new medications. OR ASK the original doctor who said this....why no injections? And specifically ask about your eye injections. You do not want to lose your sight!
Consultants are cautious giving intravitreal injections as they might cause a small increased risk of experiencing blood clots, which can cause heart attacks or strokes. However, it is also thought that any links between AMD treatment and a higher risk of heart attacks/strokes could just be coincidental, as many people are at risk of heart attacks/strokes due to high blood pressure etc. and not necessarily due to treatment for AMD. It is important that you call your consultant in advance of your next injection to discuss.

Thank you all for your comments. Today is my first back on the PC. I had to make another trip to the ER after my post. My eye doctor works at a facility that my insurance coverage is with. He only works there one day a week and there is no way to contact him. I called his private practice but have not heard anything yet. I just saw the cardiologist a few days ago and he said it should be ok. They have me on antiplatelets and some other meds.
I had a stroke four years ago and had to wait 12 weeks before next eyelea injections. As one eye had just been injected it remained fine but the wait set back the other one which had been due for injection. Had to start again.. Best ask the clinic that does injection though!
