Hello all, very newly diagnosed with myopic CNV in my right eye (I’m 41 years old) and had my first injection last Tuesday. I have distortion in my central vision. I’m desperately trying to remain positive but it all came on so quickly I didn’t ask any questions nor really understand the condition. Will the distortion eventually go away or is this my vision now? Thank you in advance!

Hi and nice to meet you via this chat. While I’m not sure there is a guaranteed answer to your question I believe there is much reason to be optimistic.
I was diagnosed with MCNV in my peripheral vision at 47 (now 60) and after my first few treatments distortion almost completely went away and vision remains 20/20 with glasses to this day. I’ve had intermittent “treatments” (injections with avastin / lucentis) over the years but have gone long periods (couple of years) sometimes between needing them. That said, I still get them every so often when my doctor notices “activity”.
My best “advice” based on my experience…is to be diligent with your checkups / at home use of the Amsler Grid to notice any changes, keep up your overall health and be a bit careful about scouring the internet (I spent many hours initially doing lots of research and was probably more confused)!
Best of luck and would be happy to discuss more…regards
That’s good to hear tomo123 and hello anagramme. Great to hear your positive experiences. My experience is similar - high myopia and bleed in left eye at 48. Ivealso just had one injection and due monthly check up and possibly second injection next week. It’s strange isn’t it how quickly it happens after so many years of looking out for retinal detachment then something I ve never heard of happens! Fingers crossed things continue smoothly for you both. X
Hi tomo123, thank you so much for taking the time to reply and share your experience. I had no idea about the condition and have done exactly what you say to be careful about - I’ve been searching the internet. This has not helped me at all and I wish I’d just come here first! I’m so pleased to hear you have good vision and have been well for so many years. Long may it continue! Thank you again for all the advice. I have found the Amsler Grid to do my own checks. I have my follow up appointment in a few weeks time. Keep well and speak soon.
Hi Anagramme. You could contact the Macular Society Helpline, they will be able to help and give you advice. I've left their number below. There are also some posts on the right of this page at the top from people who have the same problem. Good luck. x
