46 with CNV and children

I am 46 year old male, in good health other than extreme myopia and CNV now, I have young children and work full time (my work involves using computer screens).

Upon till age 45 I have been managing well in regards to my eye sight, had noticed however some darkening of vision in my right eye - had been happening for approx 5 - 7 years prior to noticing distortion in my right eye

I have had cNV in my right eye have had three injections of Eylea, there has been some stabilisation, improved clarity but have noticed a sepia tone to my vision in right eye, I have been told that I have the beginnings of cataracts in both eyes and am wondering if its been made worse by the eylea. does any one else have any thoughts

Hi PHILhr

Nice to meet you!

I have myopic cnv. (Diagnosed in early June 2020.)

I'm 53 years of age, and -4.25 in each eye, so not severly myopic. I think my fluctuating hormones quickened my chances of getting this! (Male family member aged 84 has had it ten years.)

I have had two shots of Eyelea, I've not had a third yet because I became very worried about the immediate (daily) redness and extreme dryness of my eyes (the fellow 'good' eye especially). This became much worse after the second injection. I have to go to bed much earlier because my eyes are so bad at night. Quite rubbish because I teach and have pIanning to do. I have seen an optician as well as my eye consultant, and have just been told to apply heat and use drops. Not much help or success.

I am waiting for another review at the eye clinic and am dreading a third injection which will surely make this dryness even worse. I am lucky that my vision is fairly stable at the time of writing...touch wood.

I have also noticed that the vision through my left eye (the one with m cnv) is, as you describe, a bit sepia-toned. The colour through my right, is richer in tone and brighter. I do not know if this is connected to the Eyelea because I never checked the individual vision of my eyes before the sudden onset of the condition in mid-May and back then I was only concerned with distortion, not colour changes.

I was unaware that agreeing to have the Eyelea injections meant becoming part of a clinical trial. I don't know if this would have made any difference in having the first injection because I was just so frightened at not being able to see properly. I was informed about being a 'guinea-pig' just before the second injection. It's only with hindsight that I have become more concerned about serious side-effects. It is a Catch-22 situation however.

(Although I am always reading up on alternatives to anti-VEGF injections...)

I've read that the colour thing is common with macular conditions, so not necessarily a side effect of anti-VEGF injections.

I'm sure others on here will reply to you. Try not to freak out - easy to say I know - but do as much for your overall health and wellbeing as possible.

Standing under a tree whilst he leaves fall is wonderful!

I posted a recipe for an eye tonic tea earlier this evening. Give it a try.

Good luck - we are in this together! Well, some of the time at least, which is very comforting.

Best wishes

BGS

Hi PHILhr

anti-vegf injections can sometimes lead to cataracts but the biggest culprit is intravitreal steroids--especially long acting steroids(intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide) and steroid implants. More importantly, many people in their 40's and 50's have the beginnings of cataracts. It's actually quite common.

Hi PHILhr. I have Eylea injections and have been doing so for over two years now. I have a small cataract in my right eye (no injections in that eye) but a larger one (although still smallish) in the eye that I have the injections in. I have just read on the Eylea US web site that cataracts are one of the side effects of Eylea. x

Yes that seems to happen with fluid leakage. I am now getting my jections of eyelea every 2 weeks because I don’t have fluid at 2 weeks but I do at 3 weeks. I also have muted colors ,istortion, and things look smaller. I am 60 and have had retinal issues for many years. One of my eyes had one Cnv episode that quickly resolved with Avastin. Don’t give up. Continue your treatment and push if you think you n Ed more treatment.

Hi alalex101

So glad to hear from you, yes this is quite a journey, it seems to punctuation every waking moment. It has been heartening though to hear from others, I do take a little more notice of nature now... my appreciation is growing.

A few questions, you say that fluid leakage may be associated with cloudy vision/sepia toned, if that's the case have you found any improvement/stabilisation after receiving an injection.

This condition for me is so unique, I can't help my self constantly checking my vision... as if a miracle is going to take place at any given point. What's strange is I have distortion in my cnv eye but in some respects if it was not for the diming of eye sight I might actually be able to see objects at a distance more clearly... strange. The sepia tone is really getting on my nerves which is why I asked about cataracts, I thought may be my cnv eye might be developing a cataract. Not sure about your experience but when I look back now I have been aware of the gradual dimming of my eye sight for approx 7-8 years possibly slightly longer but the cnv appears to have brought it into undeniable focus.

I had cataracts removed when I was about 45. It helped my distance vision and decreased halos but unfortunately I had macular edema in one eye afterwards that took months to resolve. My right eye is the better one. I have 20/40 in it with glasses and no distortion in it. I had one episode of Cnv in it and colors are not dim in it. I might add that I have dome shaped macula and myopic degeneration in both eyes. My worse eye is the left eye. It is quite dim. I wouldn’t call it sepia but colors less vivid. I often can’t distinguish dark brown, black or navy. I think the eyelea May help my vision a liTitle for a couple of weeks. My goal is to maintain the 20/80 O have on it. Hope this answers your questions. I have coronavirus so less attentive.
