Sorry me again!relative newbie so lots to ask! Are these vitamins good for MMD? Are the AREDS vitamins useful for this type of myopic degeneration as well as the AMD? Have ordered some macushield gold hoping they will be useful!

I'd interested in knowing anyone else's thoughts.I've been taking vitamins that are supposed to benefit macula for 3 months.
The macula in one eye has fluid behind it after a number of operations from a detached retina.
During a recent site test, I managed to read another line, from the previous test done 5 weeks before.
I couldn't say whether this was due to the vitamins. I haven't had any issues, or side effects of taking the vitamins. So, for me, I don't see the harm in taking them. In the slight chance I'll see some benefit.
Hi years ago my Consultant told me to get on Macushield Gold as soon as possible. He said they would do no harm & would hopefully help. Since then I have had a couple of bouts of wet amd but after lots of injections & being told to stay on Macushield Gold, Touch Wood all ok. If you can afford them then try them as anything that may help save your sight is worth it. It is a struggle to afford them now but will find a way as to me my sight is precious. Good luck if you try them, hope they work for you.
I have macula odema do u think these would help with that
Hello... I have taken Macushield for many years. Initially they were recommended to me as a precautionary measure by my optician because both my mother and grandmother had MS at a time when no treatment was possible. I did not have MS then but developed it a few years later, 5 years ago. I have been having treatment under NHS during that time i.e. injections at varying timescales. I am now stable (no fluid leakage) & not needed any injections for over a year but attend a clinic for 'stable' patients every 3 months where my condition is monitored by eye tests & scans. There is always possibility it could return in which case I would resume injections. I don't know if Macushield has made any difference but wonder if my condition may have been worse if I hadn't. Eye doctor still recommends it. I have never taken the Gold version because it just contains a few more general vitamins - I prefer to take Macushield plus a multivitamin daily. Good luck going forward with your treatment.
Boots do a brand called optihealth which is much cheaper and has much the same formula. It is still expensive but not just as eye watering. Pun intended! Hard luck for anyone on a small income to have macushield for the rest of your life. Go well Marrathon girl.
Hello just a quick reply to your eye vitamin question, I was told I had wet AMD last september in my left eye, was told my right eye was fine so I immediately started taking macushield to try and save my good eye, however, I now have wet AMD in my other eye, so now double injections, needless to say I will not be bothering with the vitamins any more
Hi! I remember MacSoc suggests AREDS vitamins can be helpful in AMD. Not sure about other conditions though. I have AMD and I take an AREDS2 supplement called Vision Defender AMD and my AMD has been stable over the last few years. Hope that's useful - best of luck!
