Wet Macular degenerative disease has begun

I was diagnosed with the dry.form of macular degenerative disease in both eyes at the age of 40. I've eaten right and excercised, taken vitamins for the eyes. Now at 53 Ive started injections of Eylea in both eyes. I'm hoping for the best. God bless us all who suffer from this horrible disease.

Dear lunar OMG how awful for you! I have recent been diagnosed with wet AMD in one eye and dry in the other. I've had one Eylea injection and am due for another next week. My first one was horrible as I didn't know what to expect but hopefully they will help us fight this terrible disease. Keep in touch and like Eyesright I feel this site is brilliant. Hugs from squinty and I wish you all the best xxxx

My injections went well. I kept both eyes closed for the rest is the day. Took a sleeping pill as soon as I got home and slept for hours. I only opened my eyes about 10 times and stayed in bed the rest of the night. Today, my eyes are a little red but I have no pain. I'm going to take it easy today and start my regular schedule tomorrow. Try this after you're next injection and let me know how it goes....

Aaah I'm going to do the same after my next injection, take to my bed and listen to the radio with eyes closed to get rid of that awful gritty feeling X

Glad it went ok. I stay up very late the day before so I will be tired and sleep after the inj. I also take 2 paracetamol an hour or so before the inj which I find helps. Used to suffer badly with the grittiness but not so much now and my clinic have started giving moisturizing drops after inj which has helped.

If the grittiness gets worse tell clinic, it might be reaction to the iodine and they can use something else.

Hallo everyone its Squinty, I dont seem to be able to find myself to post. I had my second Eylea injection yesterday morning, god they are absolutely awful aren't they. You poor people who have these in both eyes. The injections arent so bad its just afterwards with that horrable grittyness and pain afterwards. I'm ok today, except for a black dot which was following me all day, it seems to be disappearing but its still about at the bottom of my vision. However, there was a bit of good news. They told me that the first injection made a good improvement and the fluid had reduced considerably, so maybe I will only need 3 instead of the 8. I'm so grateful to the NHS who provide with these marvellous injections at a major cost, and they have only been available for the past 6 years. The Western Eye Hospital in Marylebone are wonderful, very kind. I have dry in the other eye but its early stages so I'm feeling so happy. My Charles Bonnet has also stopped. Phew! Love to you all xxx
