I’m heading to my second Eylea injections shortly and was wondering how long the Eylea can dry it up for? I think my vision is improved a little so I’m wondering if there is a chance I won’t need further injections after the loading dose.
Is it feasible to hope for this as an outcome?

I think the interval and number of injections varies for everyone. It might give you hope if I tell you I had 3 loading injection and then then a 4 month gap followed by a 4th injection back in 2015 then nothing until until this year where I had an injection in May and another in June and am currently having 5 week checkups. I didn’t get 3 loading injections this time I was told it was dry after 1. I’m not sure if that’s new protocol or a knock on from Covid. Good Luck
Hi Everyone, it appears to me that everyone is different and also where you get your injections is very different. I’m in the US and I have been getting injections regularly for the last three years at first every month my left eye was difficult to dry up but finally with Eylea it has been dry for at least 2 years and now I get injections every 12-13 weeks. Unfortunately the left eye has now also been affected by dry AMD and I can’t read with this eye but can still see OK, thank God the vision in my right eye is good. I think I will be getting the shots every 12 - 13 weeks or until protocol changes here or something new is approved by the FDA many things in the pipeline. Good luck everyone ♥️
I really wasn’t aware you could get dry and after having wet, What a shame your vision has been affected but great news your other eye has been good enough to compensate for the impact.
Hi BlurryArtist. No-one can say for sure how long the Eylea dries up the fluid for, we're all different. Only having the OCT scan can tell how it's going. Some people don't need more than a loading dose whereas others do and some go on for years having the injections. It's as I say, we are all different but I sincerely hope yours dries up and does not need further injections after the loading dose. Time will tell. Good luck. 🤞
As others have said BlurryArtist, it does vary from person to person, I have been having Eyelea injections for over a year for wet macular degeneration in one eye, the other eye remains dry, the latest scan showed a great improvement with the wet eye, I go for injections around every eight weeks now. It is of course very reassuring that the injections do help. Very best wishes, hope you continue to improve.
My Dr told me what the protocol was for me with my wet macular degeneration in my right eye. Of course he tests my eyes every time I go in for an injection. I have had 3 Eylea injections 4 weeks apart and he said my next one can be 6 weeks. Originally he said I would have these for 6 months but so far he has seen an improvement. I can tell there is an improvement! My problem is the 1st injection was totally painless and the next 2 were painful
I saw the specialist when I was first diagnosed but at the first injection they explained that my eyes won’t be checked again until I’ve completed the loading doses. So I don’t have any real way to measure except the amsel chart, which always looks very different each time I do it.I had my second jabs yesterday, so I’m hopeful I will get a bit of vision back.
I’ve been having injections (Lucentis) since the start of this year and have moved out from 4 to 10 week intervals. My WMD has definitely improved but the next scan will be interesting to see whether it has stabilised. As others have indicated, we’re all different and there’s no guarantee that your WMD will have ‘dried’ after the loading doses. But, in my case, there is the ‘consolation’ of the interval being pushed out. Hope that it will be the same for you too! All the best.
Your results sound very good, I’m trying hard to be patient and not get discouraged if it doesn’t dry immediately. I really want to be able to drive and to see well enough to paint. I can always paint more expressively but the driving is mandated vision requirements.Just staying positive and hoping for the best.
