Good Morning. I have wet macular degeneration in both eyes and have been getting Eylea shots for about 8 yrs. I am wondering if anyone has had to have a head head CT scan and is it dangerous with wet macular degeneration. Thank you.

Hi Zool. Who booked you for a head CT scan and do they know about your macular degeneration and Eylea injections? I wouldn't imagine it to be harmful but I'm not a doctor or consultant so I think it would be best to ask the person who has recommended you for the CT scan.

Hi Zool,

I had head CT a year ago and I have Myopic CNV in both eyes similar to wet macular. I also have had about 40 plus injections of lucentis and now Eylea.

The consultant knew about my eye condition , it made no difference to me getting the CT.

Hope that helps.

take care 🙏

I am to have one in February, they checked with the radiologist because I have stents (drain tubes made of metal) embedded in my eyes, as well as macular degeneration, get the all clear to go ahead. I can’t see why it wouldn’t be ok.

Hello Zool,

I have checked with our research department for you. They have stated the following:

"There is no contraindications for wet or dry AMD and CT scans. I couldn’t find any information to show radiation from CT scans reached the macula or caused any damage to the macula which could lead to any type of AMD."

Kind regards,

I have wet AMD in both eyes and receive regular eyeless injections. I have also had several head CTs over the last year. They have made no difference to my eyes. It doesn’t look as if there is any danger. I wish you well.
