Severe headache and pain after lucentis injections?

Can anyone advice please. My husband has macular degeneration and has been receiving injections for the past 4 years with no problems. He had his injections in both eyes today as usual and was fine when we returned home but after 3 hours has been unable to open his eyes due to pain and very sensitive to light. His nose is completely blocked and he is holding his head with such a bad headache. I rang the lucentis team in our area and the nurse told me to buy some viscal eyes and apply to both eyes liberally and take painkillers and if it is no better in 24 hours to ring them again. We are currently sat in the dark and my husband cannot open his eyes at all. I am thinking it might be best to just go to A & E as I have tried ringing the emergency number for the lucentis team again an no answer. Should I just let him rest his eyes till tomorrow or do you think A & E is the right thing to do? Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi welshkaren. Well I don't know what to say about this. As he's been having them for four years with no problems, I might be tempted to go back to A & E. I am wondering though if this may be due to the iodine not being flushed out of the eyes thoroughly enough, I have had this myself in my eye and it was so bad that it affected not just the nostril on that side but the other nostril too and they both ran like a tap for a few hours even though they felt blocked - do you think it could be the iodine? You could try ringing the team again but if you can't get through then it might be a good idea to take him to A & E - is it far away from where you live?

Gotta agree with you it sounds like the same reaction I had before I had the docs flush my eye more than normal...

Good Morning welshkaren,

Has his condition improved? If not, have you had any further contact with the eye clinic or been to A+E? If not I would advise to go to A+E to be safe,

All the best,

Becky
