Laser treatment for new vein growing central vein occlusion

I have a Central vein occlusion, I'm having injections every two months, had laser treatment for new veins growing which I found horrendous, now they said I need another 1500 shots of laser as I have a new vein growing, I'm petrified of having this done again and was told I will lose some of my peripheral vision, has anyone else had this and if so how much vision could I lose this time. I appreciate any info thankyou

Sending you a hug X it's a horrible position to be in, trading off one kind of damage to save another part. I hope your treatments are successful.

Thankyou for your reply, I'm so scared to sit in a chair knowing I'm going to come out with more permanent damage, but apparently if I don't have it the new weaker vein could haemorrhage, worst catch 22 , I'm still thinking whether to go ahead or not x

There's nothing easy about it but if the choice is between central or peripheral vision damage my choice would be protect the central.

I have brvo and couldn't have laser as mine was too close to the fovea it would have worsened my central vision more than the brvo they said.

Can they wait until anything does happen with the new weak vein? At least then you'd know for sure the laser was needed although I wouldn't have thought they'd recommend it to you if it wasnt :(

Very best wishes going forwards x

I am assuming it will be peripheral vision that u will lose and it’s hard to say they will only laser what is needed to say the central vision they may offer you a visual field test so they can check what is lost not sure tho

Hi yes it's peripheral vision , I'm going to ask them before they start how much am I likely to lose, it's surreal I have to willingly let someone permanently damage my eyesight more just to maybe stop a bleed in the future

I've had laser treatment and I didn't find it was unpleasant. I am so sorry you found it horrendous, Pablo5. Did you tell them it was so bad? . Personally I would go ahead. Make sure they know how bad you found it last time. Is there no anaesthetic or even a tranquillizer they can offer you? Let us know how you get on. A big hug xxx

Thankyou so much for your reply, did you lose much vision? Have you had more than one treatment? , .I found out at last appointment the consultant who did my first one last year has finished working doing this as the hospital had several issues with him, I know I need it done, just afraid how much more peripheral vision I will lose .
